Greg Hardy‘s stock is lower than we ever could have expected. An Indoor Football League team flirted with the idea of signing the defensive end, but opted against it after he did not pass a fan referendum. No one wants to go near the former Pro Bowler because of his unsettling history with domestic violence and perceived lack of accountability for said violence. Even when the Cowboys gave him a second chance in 2015, he was moody, lazy, and late to practice. It’s easy to understand why the NFL wants nothing to do with him and one can even understand the IFL’s hesitation in getting involved with him.
Still, when he’s on the field, Hardy is a game-changing talent. Between 2011 and 2013, the former sixth-round pick averaged 56 tackles and 10 sacks per season season. Even in a down year with Dallas in 2015, he ranked as the league’s 28th-best edge defender out of 110 qualified players, according to Pro Football Focus. At his worst, Hardy is a starting caliber defensive end and he won’t turn 29 until this summer.
Today, we borrow a page from the Salt Lake Screaming Eagles’ book and ask this of PFR readers: Would you want your favorite team to sign Hardy? Vote below and, if you want, explain your choice in the comments.
Anybody that’s voted yes for this has serious issues
I did explain why you feel that way
Where’s the “who really cares” and “it doesn’t matter what we think” options?
Or the IDGAF button
I’m tired of seeing polls for “should he be signed” if a front office can trust him and see that he’s still got it, he’ll be signed. It doesn’t matter what fans think
He deserves the chance to work in his area of expertise. In this case, football. He is a free man and in this country we do not continuously punish people for wrongs of the past. Is he probably an idiot? Maybe! But if we punished people for that we would all have been fired or denied work at some point in our lives. Sign him and If he does not produce, then cut him. But until he shows he can’t or won’t cut it, he deserves a chance.
You must be disciplined and dedicated to be an “expert” in any field. Hardy is neither and to say he is an expert is a slap in the face to the rest of the NFL. Hardy is talented, but that only gets you so far when everyone else is talented….
I said yes just because you can bring him in with no guarantee money cut him in the preseason if he isnt playing well. No way in my mind does a team give him guaranteed money too big of a risk definitely a prove it 1 year deal seems fair
I dont care one bit what players do off the field. If Aaron Hernandez was released on a technicality Id hope my team signed him.
Of course Id sign Greg Hardy. Minimum contract with Zero guaranteed money. Make it known to him that we are actively looking for reasons to cut him. Late to a practice… dont care about your excuse… CUT. Argue with anyone on the team/staff about anything at all… dont care whos fault it is… youre CUT.
He knows its his absolute last chance.. If you can get a productive player on his best behaviour at minimum cost… go for it.
I dont care if he beat his ex girlfriend. I dont care if he beat his last 10 girlfriends…. I only care if he can he get to the QB on Sunday.
