Mike Glennon cannot officially sign with teams until tomorrow, but the rest of the league already seems to think he’s spoken for. Other teams are operating as though he’s off the board and going to the Bears, according to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune.
Glennon’s suitors have been falling off one-by-one this week. The Jets reported interest in him was apparently overblown and the 49ers are not interested either. With that in mind, it will be interesting to see what kind of contract Glennon might get from the Bears. Last week, there were rumblings of Glennon getting $14-$15MM per year. If the Bears are effectively bidding against themselves, then that would be a particularly high price to pay.
For the majority of free agents, deals cannot be consummated until the start of the new league year at 3pm ET/2pm CT on Thursday.

That sounds right. The Bears bidding against themselves
Yeah it’s a good idea in theory bc if they bet against themselves they will win
The contract price was already agreed upon and thats when other teams bailed out not matching the Bears offer.
If the Bears truly are giving Glennon 15 million a year, and no other team was interested in him, Pace needs to go. You can’t overpay a lower tier quarterback by 5 plus million, and still reasonably build a roster. That’s a lot of money that should be spent on the many, many other holes in this roster.
Agreed, but it’s the Bears. They’ve been making moves like this for 30 years. That’s why they suck.
Agreed, but it’s the Bears. They’re synonymous with moves like this.
Unfortunately I’m starting to think that Pace knows this is his last year to make a huge jump in the standings and is going to blow through a lot of the cap space and overspend to fill holes. The only thing the Bears have going for them is Pace has drafted very well thus far.
Plenty of teams were interested in Glennon
Still would be less money than Jay Cutler and can he be any worse I doubt it and I’m sure he’ll play more games than he did. So even 15 million for me will not be bad they will still have enough to get 3 quality top free agents
Cutler only has a $12.5M hit against the cap, but i get what you are saying.
Hmmm … Cutler owns every Bears passing record. The team was founded in 1919. Every time they start someone in his place, they IMMEDIATELY land on injured reserve. But yeah, I’m sure it will all be better with Glennon. As long as Charles Leno stays at LT, all will be fine. ESPN tells everyone who to hate and who to love. That’s why perennial crybaby Cam Newton is still everyone’s ideal QB. The poster child for over-indulged, self-entitled immature Millennials.
It won’t matter who is under center for Daaa Bears until they drastically improve that porous offensive line.
This feels like Brock Osweiler all over again.
Im not sure Pace has any other or better choices here. Hoyer, who I was hoping they would re-sign, was really the only other guy that made sense.
The knock on Glennon is that he struggles against the blitz. Hopefully Howard and the strong running game can help with that.
I hate being a Bears fan
