In the middle of the night, a post appeared on Jimmy Garoppolo‘s Instagram which prompted mass speculation online that the Patriots quarterback had been traded.

“So grateful for my time in New England. Peace out Boston ✌🏻,” the caption read, below a smiling photo of the 25-year-old.
Apparently, there’s nothing to it. Garoppolo has no knowledge of any trade and his agent says the post was the result of a hack, a source close to the quarterback tells Ian Rapoport of NFL.com (Twitter links). In fact, at this point, there have been no trade talks between the Browns and Patriots, Rapoport adds (Twitter link). Of course, a Garoppolo pursuit has been rumored for some time now for the Browns and they are still mulling the idea, even after acquiring Brock Osweiler.
Typically, we don’t write about bogus rumors here at Pro Football Rumors, but this Instagram post send the football world into a frenzy and woke up a number of reporters around 5:30am ET, so it needed to be debunked. Browns fans and Patriots fans can take a deep breath, for now: Garoppolo has not been traded (as of this writing) and he remains on the Pats’ depth chart as Tom Brady‘s backup.
Sent the football world into a frenzy? I don’t get the enormous amount of hype for this guy. He really hasn’t seen a lot of time on the field. Yeah I get it, he won those games while filling in for Tom Brady, but I got a feeling you couls have anybody in that same spot and get the same results that Jimmy G got
it’s brock osweiller 2.0 except
1. he doesn’t have a chappy attitude.
2. he’s learned under Tom and Bill.
I’d be surprised if Brock listened to any tips from Manning.
yeah boy, any ole boy could line up under center and win in the NFL. Dude, that’s pretty stupid when you review it. Anybody??
hope you enjoy your long holiday weekend away from middle school
i’m a former nfl qb and it’s super easy, anyone can do it actually
One reporter in Cleveland continues to promote this story of JG coming to Cleveland. Other reporters that cover the Browns aren’t so certain Jimmy G is coming to Cleveland or that the Browns are interested. More likely to see them use picks to trade up and take their guy in the draft. I like how the Browns vastly improved the quality of their offensive line.
they are not trading up in this draft to get a qb. that qb they need isn’t in this draft.
Where are the Browns trading up too? They have the first pick!
#2
It’s the first pick. San Francisco has #2.
Browns also have 12th pick. Trade up from 12.
Maybe next year’s draft. QBs available in that draft will be much better than this year. Mason Rudolph, Luke Falk, Jake Browning, Nick Fitzgerald, Clayton Thorson, Josh Allen, Sam Darnold, etc.
I dont get all the Garropolo hype. 2 games then injury. And the Pats want #12
This dude is so overrated its not even funny. Just like cassel before him, then mallett they are trying to create this alternate universe where learning under Brady has meant anything. Im sure few people remember that at one point the Pats were pushing Mallett as a franchise guy, despite the fact he had no in season play and mediocre preseasons, yet they wanted a first or at the very least a second, the sole reason being he learned from Brady.
Some are now saying they want #1 overall
Thats laughable, why would the browns do anything like that, they would be bidding against themselves. To trade multiple picks for a guy you would have to re-sign next year whether he was good or bad, or risk wasting everything on him is beyond me, especially when they have many holes to fill. Its not like they are only a qb away. On top of it, you can draft a qb, and you have 5 years to develop him rather than 1.
I know, been calling all kinds of people nuts for making statements like “Browns should do the smart thing and trade #1 and get that QB”. Of course, it’s Patriots fans saying these things, sure they want #1 overall for a backup. Win for them. #33 alone is the highest I would offer. If that doesn’t get it done, I would try to sign him next year. Otherwise, Belichick can watch him on the bench next year.
