The Jets continued their roster purge on Thursday night by releasing Brandon Marshall and more notable vets could be following him out the door. Don’t be surprised if the Jets also release Eric Decker this offseason, a source tells Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News.

Decker appeared in just three games last season after undergoing both hip surgery and an operation to repair his partially torn rotator cuff. Gang Green could theoretically cut him if/when he passes a physical, freeing up $5.75MM against the 2017 cap with $3MM in dead money.
In 2015, Decker had 80 receptions for 1,027 yards and 12 touchdowns, his best season as a Jet. The soon-to-be 30-year-old has said that he should be good to go for the ’17 season.
“I’m not worried about missing any time next year,” Decker said in October. “I’ll be fine by the start of next year.”
When he is ready to take the field, he could be doing it in a different uniform. The Jets have already carved out about about $45MM in cap space by cutting Marshall, Darrelle Revis, and other veterans in recent days, but they might not be done slashing payroll yet.
I don’t find this to be a wise move. We don’t have a #1 WR with OR without him but we can’t go into the season without a #1 OR #2 wideout. We don’t know what Anderson and Peake are, but they haven’t shown me they are a #1. Enunwa is that hybrid player and Smith (if he ever plays again) is just a speedster. Why get rid of Decker who is a 3rd down monster? Keep Decker another year just to have that veteran presence instead of maybe going out into FA and bringing in a guy who fits that mold but might mess up what chemistry is left with this team.
I guess the jets will suck for the next 3 years Min.
Haven’t they been already though for a couple years now?
No, they went 10-6 the previous year and were a boneheaded Fitzpatrick throw away from the playoffs.
For all the hate that Fitzpatrick gets for that 2015-16 final game of the season, he doesn’t get any credit for at least getting them to that opportunity. Granted he was absolutely terrible last year, but Bryce Petty sure showed that he wouldn’t have been any better, and I highly doubt any Jets fan would’ve rather seen Geno starting over Fitzpatrick that year.
Tennessee will jump on him within the hour of his release.
Jets have an interesting rebuild going on, not sure it isn’t a smart long term move, but the losing won’t stop for three years or more…
I’m playing a drinking game and every post from this writer that has ” gang green” in the story, I’m downing a shot!!!!

This just in from NFL Rumors:
All 32 NFL Teams could possible pursue free agents or trades or not.
If the Jets dump Decker, you watch the Patriots sign him! Then you will see just how much of a stud he really is!!
