Assorted notes pertaining to this year’s free agents…
- Free agent tight end Kellen Davis visited the Browns today, reports ESPN.com’s Field Yates (via Twitter). The former fifth-rounder has played in 24 games (16 starts) for the Jets over the past two seasons. In parts of nine NFL seasons, the 31-year-old has compiled 53 receptions for 579 yards and 13 touchdowns.
- The Dolphins hosted free agent linebacker Zach Brown yesterday, and Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald tweets that the team “wants” the former Bill. However, he also notes that the organization isn’t willing to pay big or engage in a bidding war. Meanwhile, Scott Bair of CSNBayArea.com writes that Brown could also be an option for the Raiders. The 27-year-old fired his agent earlier today.
- Nose tackle Domata Peko had previously said the Vikings were pursuing him in free agency. However, according to Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press (on Twitter), head coach Mike Zimmer said today that the organization never had interest in the long-time Bengals lineman. Peko ultimately signed with the Broncos earlier this month.
- Yahoo’s Charles Robinson tweets that the Eagles had offered defensive tackle Bennie Logan a “sizable extension offer” during the season, which the player turned down. The veteran ultimately had to settle for a one-year deal from the Chiefs worth $8MM.
The Vikings haven’t had a good free agency
I don’t agree, it hasn’t been star studded but they didn’t lose anything of value and I’d say the moves they did make are improvements. Murray > AP and Asiata and Reiff/Remmers > Kalil/Andre Smith/TJ Clemmings. Losing Patterson was disappointing but kick returning isn’t a valuable skill these days due to the new rules and it’s not hard to find a 4th WR in the draft for way less.
Murray > AP? Lol. GL w/that. Raiders OL earned Murray that contract… w/them, he is not gonna be remotely the same player, statistically. He’s better than Asiata tho
In fairness if you carried a football from your living room to the bathroom, you > AP in 2016.
He’s an older guy coming off of a debilitating knee injury. I don’t think he’s done yet but the idea that he’s a guarantee for anything is kind of silly.
Statistically you’re probably right, but his ability to pass block something he’s fantastic at will help keep Bradford up. That was something AP was never very skilled at and something McKinnon and Asiata were awful at. So that alone is an improvement over what they had last year. Also his health will be a big improvement over AP and lastly they signed arguably the best FA RB to a great contract that they can void after one year. (Charles and AP can’t stay healthy and Lacy is nearly 270lbs)
Wish Bennie Logan would have stayed with the Eagles.
Yeah but they offered a deal and he thought he’d cash in bigger elsewhere. He was a good player, but they have much bigger needs and little cap space, so I’m glad they didn’t tie even more money at a position not as dire as others.
Fair is more like it. They may not be done just yet either.
Did I just read that right? Murray is better then AP? Time for bed.
Currently? I’d take Murray everyday of the week over AP right now. Younger, infinitely better blocker, better out of the backfield and heck I think AP is done so even though I don’t think much of Murray running the ball id rather have him right now.
Oh and waaaaaay healthier than AP. AP is one of the greatest RBs of all time but he’s done at best he’ll latch on somewhere as a backup before hanging his cleats up.
HE goes by AD not AP.
I used to call him that but he hasn’t been All Day in years.
Do people not know that AP basically missed the whole year last year?
The commenter that says AP is better than Murray, I agree with you. Sure AP has had an amazing career, but recently I think he’s shown us he’s done. To many knee injuries, and for a position based on legs, you can’t overcome that. He’s made enough money, he should just retire and be remembered as one of the greatest backs of all time rather than someone who overstayed their welcome.
Heard a comment from benny Logan, said he was not offered deal from eagles.
