In recent weeks, teams have been meeting with Oklahoma running back Joe Mixon and weighing his potential against the public relations nightmare that would come with drafting him. At least one team, it seems, won’t even put it on the scale. There is a “zero percent chance” that the Dolphins will draft Mixon, a source with knowledge of the team’s thinking told Armando Salguero of The Miami Herald.

Mixon was not invited to the draft combine in late February after video surfaced of him striking a woman in a late-night altercation. There’s also an alleged incident from 2016 in which the running back got in the face of a female meter maid. Teams are uneasy about Mixon’s history, but at the same time, he is one of the top running backs in this year’s class in terms of pure ability. Absent the red flags, Mixon would have safely been projected as a first-round choice. There’s serious downside with Mixon, but Tyreek Hill’s breakout season in Kansas City is a reminder how a risky pick can pay off.
Mixon amassed 1,812 yards from scrimmage and scored 15 touchdowns last season, averaging 6.8 yards per carry. It’s looking more and more likely that one team will roll the dice on him, but it will not be the Dolphins.
Didn’t she hit him first, twice?
Is this really a person you want to defend? Really?
Watch the video. There is no excuse for what he did.
Yea so he broke her jaw……she got what she deserved right? You are an idiot!!!
You can disagree without resorting to name-calling. It is a legitimate question about whether or not to draft him. I can see both sides. Team GMs are generally retained or fired based on winning, not because they have good guys on the team. But what he did was really bad. Legitimate discussion.
Somebody on really solid ground will have to take Mixon. I wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up in Denver or New England.
New England basically has no picks left at this point so I doubt he falls far enough. If Butler signs with someone who has a pick in the 20’s and they don’t match and take the pick instead, then maybe.
Would have loved to see him get drafted by the Fins, but I can totally understand why teams aren’t interested. What he did was wrong, but the team that does take him are going to be very happy with his performance on the field ( barring injury of course)
Mixon is 21 and talented – 6.8 Y/A tops for RB prospects, 14.5 Y/A receiving 2nd behind Cook, Fastest 40 of top-5 RB prospects – he’s going to get drafted. Primo Talent+Age – Draft Round – PR Hit = worth it.
Ray Rice was 27, coming off his worst career as a pro – 3.1 Y/A and at the time he was trying to make a come-back at age 28-29 so there’s limited upside. Past Prime Age Talent – Cash Cost – PR hit = not worth it.
Greg Hardy was 27, and his last full year he had 15 sacks, 3rd in the league. Primo Talent – Cash Cost (per game basis) – PR Hit = worth it.
Now Greg Hardy age 28-29 off 1/2 production across the board + additional bad self generated PR make it not worth it anymore. If he balled out, he’d be signed.
Colin Kaepernick age 29-30. QBR = 23rd (behind Brock Osweiler). Completion % = 26 (just above Brock Osweiler). Niche Offense – Read Option (Seahawks and who else?). Cost – Not willing to take 2M salary if he’s still out there.
So Diminishing Talent – Niche Offense – PR for a back-up QB that’s Tebow-esque – cost requirements = not worth it.
No one cried black-balled when Fitzpatrick couldn’t get signed by any other team until the Jets caved late. And he was coming off a 31TD 3900 YDS 10-6 record. Not a 16TD 2200 YD 1-10 record.
Thats just reality. Weigh the Pros vs the Cons. And then per-team basis, is he better than who we currently have. Dolphins have Jay Ajayi a 24-yr old stud.
Hate and as a a star. Some made up crap espn did that everyone references it. Blaine gabbert top 10 and. I’m done with that star after that.
I think he deserves a shot. The kid has paid the price, and rightfully so, to this point. He served a suspension, has seen his stock plummet, didn’t get invited to the combine. Let’s remember too he’s just a kid. We all make mistakes, and hopefully he will take advantage of the short leash he’ll be given from his future team and turn into a respectable young man.
Will be gone by end of second round. Some teams are willing to deal with backlash. Look at tyreek hill on KC.
