Former third overall selection Dion Jordan has been expected to be released for some time, and though he’s currently still on the Dolphins roster, Miami still plans to cut ties with the mercurial defensive end at some point before the regular season begins, according to Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald.

Jordan, 27, has missed the entirety of the past two seasons due to suspension and injury, and has only started one game in his career. Drafted at No. 3 thanks to his impressive combination of size and speed, Jordan now weighs around 275 pounds (if he’s in shape), and as one Miami coach tells Salguero, simply can’t run anymore. Not only does Jordan lack “explosion,” but he’s dealing with some sort of non-football “issue” that the Dolphins staff won’t discuss in detail, per Salguero.
The Dolphins were expected to target defensive ends this offseason, and while they’ve re-signed Andre Branch and traded for William Hayes, Miami is still likely to spend a relatively high pick on an edge player, reports Salguero. That selection is “very likely” to come in the first round, per Salguero, meaning the Fins could target someone like Derek Barnett (Tennessee), T.J. Watt (Wisconsin), or Carl Lawson (Auburn) at pick No. 22.
If and when Jordan is cut, the Dolphins will save more than $3MM in cap space.
So they won’t give the kid a chance to start fresh and hopefully catch on with another team? Classy.
Other players should take notice of this and hold it against Miami.
Hopefully you’re kidding. This dude was drafted 3rd overall. And had a chance. And did absolutely nothing for years. Stayed in trouble at first. You could make the argument they should’ve cut ties sooner. But not at fault for not keeping him now.
Yes, they ARE going to give Jordan a chance, that is why they have not cut him yet. Armando is full of shiet sayin it’s a done deal he will be cut. But it’s a good play for Armando since there is an 80% chance he will be cut. Then Armando can claim credit for “getting the scoop” ahead of anyone else.
Jordan’s knees may not be what they were but if they were shot and he can’t run anymore he’d be cut already. Surely he’s still fast, just not elite speed. Plus the guy was never a really good DE. Plus he’s got “issues”. Add all that up and there is a very good chance he won’t make the team. But –
If he does come to camp in top shape and has his head on straight he could make the team as a rotational DE. Which is why the Fins have not cut him and will not until they see him in August. Unless he fails his physical or something stupid like that in May prior to mini-camp.
And what will Armando say if Jordan makes the team? He’ll just blame it on his source! Bad information!
The dude cant run anymore how hard is that to understand…
The guy is a fat pig now..they should keep a guy that runs a 6.5 40 yard dash? he cant even play a good game of flag football..you clown.
Hopefully the Saints land Butler. Draft a pass rusher , 2 guys in the secondary, a WR, and a RB. I hope the Butler deal goes something like this.
Saints acquire: M. Butler and NE 2017 4th Rd pick.
Pats acquire: NO 3rd RD and 7th Rd pick in 2017
Has no reason to do that deal.
Bill*
No way Bill does that
Patriots are gearing up for another championship run.. Butler is worth more than an upgrade from a late 4th round pick to an early 3rd round pick to the Patriots right now on a cheap 1 year deal.
I understand in order to trade for Butler a team will fork over a lot of $$$, but if the pats were simply to keep him and let him sign elsewhere in free agency next year, they’d more than likely receive a 3rd round compensation pick.
No pats fan here, but a 3rd simply would not cut it for a starting, young, controllable CB of Butler’s ability. I doubt even a 2nd round pick would be enough.
They didn’t trade Butler for Cooks.. and they gave up the 32nd overall pick for Cooks and then some.. start there with your proposals
Why is this on the Miami Dolphins thread ?
was gonna leave a response but you pretty much nailed it!!!
