The notion that Colin Kaepernick has requested $9MM-$10MM per year is “completely false,” a source tells Mike Florio of PFT. On Tuesday morning, it was reported that Kaepernick is seeking low-end starter/high-end backup quarterback money with a real chance of a starting job, which sounds out of range given his controversial views and lack of on-field performance. If Kaepernick isn’t seeking $9MM+, then we’re still left wondering exactly what he’s asking for. If he’s seeking a guarantee in excess of $5MM, then I believe he’s still looking for more than the market will give him.
Here’s more from around the NFL:
- In Arizona this week, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell was asked about Kaepernick and the accusation by some that he is being “blackballed” by the league. “I haven’t heard that from our clubs in any way,” Goodell said (via Ben Volin of The Boston Globe). “My experience in 35 years is that our clubs make any player evaluations, if they think a player can improve their team, they’re going to do that.”
- New head coach Sean McDermott thinks the Bills‘ No. 2 wide receiver is already on the club’s roster, although he didn’t specify if he has a certain player in mind, tweets Vic Carucci of the Buffalo News. While the Bills have eight wideouts behind Sammy Watkins on the depth chart, none are all that uninspiring. Corey Brown, Andre Holmes, Dezmin Lewis, Jeremy Butler, and Brandon Tate are among the pass-catchers currently on Buffalo’s roster.
- The Panthers were willing to part with Kony Ealy via trade in part because of the team’s re-signing of Mario Addison, coach Ron Rivera says (Twitter link via ESPN.com’s Mike Rodak). Of course, there was also matter of looming contract negotiations with Ealy.

What he said without saying it:
“I haven’t heard that from our clubs in any way… but yeah.”
What do you mean, controversial Views???
The guy is allowed to express his views, this is the USA.
Are kkk members not afforded that same right to express their views, but im pretty sure they are controversial. May want to look up the definition. If his actions cause a controversy, then they are in fact controversial.
Your just being controversial.
Kind of hard to tell tone from text, so i don’t know if your being a smarta$$ or not, if so, so be it. But if your serious, i was just using that as an example, albeit an extreme one to prove a point that just cause you’re entitled to have and express you’re own views, it doesn’t mean they cant be controversial.
No tryin to be funny, sorry, I liked your point.
That doesn’t mean someone’s views can’t be controversial just because they’re allowed to state them.
My head hurts
“While the Bills have eight wideouts behind Sammy Watkins on the depth chart, none are all that uninspiring.”
I’m guessing you meant inspiring. Because if none were uninspiring, they probably wouldn’t have to note that the number 2 receiver is on the roster.
Kaepernick is a distraction because of his political views. Sure, he is allowed to state them, but he angered a lot of people by not standing for the national anthem & by wearing anti-police socks. A star player can get away with that. An average player can’t. Joe Thomas of the Browns hit it on the head when he said that teams want zero distractions from their backup quarterbacks. That is what Kaepernick is at this point. So a team is going to sign a backup who isn’t a sideshow like Kaepernick. Teams are a business. They are allowed to decide what kind of person they want on their team. So far, teams have decided that they don’t want Kaepernick and his views on their teams.
100% true, same goes for Tim tebow….. nearly the opposite in views, but the media constantly made him a distraction to the team so many teams wouldn’t sign him.
You’re confused. The right to protest and freedom of speech doesn’t include your workplace. You don’t get to use your paid job to make political statements, and if you do, your employer has the right to fire you. This isn’t communist Russia comrade
I luv the pic of Kap 4 this story…the thinker…”I think I f*#ked up that whole not standing thing…sure do miss ball.”
Lmao
Now that’s FUNNY
So a part of his job requirements is to stand for the flag. Is that on the wonderlic test
Hoyer market last year was 2.5 million . He will need to take a one year deal I’m guessing 3-5 mil conservatively , closer to the 3 than the 5 , prove his market for the following season by showing he should deserve more dough Rey me! Not many spots left this year at QB and I’m guessing cutler’s market would be more desirable than kap . Just my opinion
Not saying that clubs are blackballing Kaepernick, but of course the clubs/owners aren’t going to tell Goodell that they might be blackballing him. Even if some idiot did, Goodell wouldn’t admit it. If it was confirmed that a team blackballed Kaepernick, that would look bad on the league and team; and that team’s players would basically pull a Donald Sterling-Clippers type of threat to boycott. If Goodell was actually told and admitted it but didn’t do anything to address it (or even punish the team in some way) then that would basically be the “final nail in the coffin” that the players and fans have been building for him.
