There has been a lot of speculation about where Tony Romo will play in 2017, but there exists the possibility that he doesn’t play at all. Both FOX and CBS are interested in adding the Cowboys quarterback to their broadcast teams, Adam Schefter of ESPN.com tweets.
After months of speculation about where the Cowboys quarterback could end up and how he’ll get there (trade or release), he remains in limbo. There is no realistic scenario in which he remains in Dallas to hold the clipboard for Dak Prescott. By the same token, the Cowboys are still hoping to get something to get something in return for him via trade, if possible. A trade would also allow them to dictate Romo’s landing spot. A wink-wink deal between the quarterback and Dallas owner Jerry Jones could steer him away from rival clubs, but a swap would give the Cowboys a level of certainty that a CBA rule-breaking handshake would not.
Of course, it’s not 100% clear that Romo wants to continue playing in the NFL. Now on the cusp of his 37th birthday, Romo has more money than he could ever spend and plenty of nagging injuries to already deal with. After injuries effectively sidelined the veteran for two straight seasons, no one would blame Romo for transitioning to the broadcast booth.
I can’t fault him if he wants to try to play, but I don’t have much faith in his body holding up (it’s nothing to do with age, it’s just that he’s been in “Handle With Care” mode for awhile) and I honestly believe transitioning to analyst would be a good move for him. I have a feeling he’d be a superb analyst, with an easygoing style that would be a quick fit.
I can see him handing off the microphone to howie long and it getting intercepted
And gets injured
What a selfish owner jones is imo. In that he can dictate where his former players end up. He doesn’t want him playing for the Texans because that would somehow affect the cowboys for whatever reason like generating revenue He would be the perfect fit for the Texans
He isn’t currently a former player he is under contract. Once he is a former player Jones won’t have any say in where he goes.
I agree. Old man Jerruh is a moron. It’s shown for years in all of his moves. Now the QB who he insisted is elite, blah blah blah, should be released but the senile old man won’t do it.
Hey dumb old man – NO ONE WILL TRADE FOR HIS CONTRACT.
He is undercontract. Getting to dictate where he goes is part of making a trade. It isnt selfish, its business sense. I personally would trade him to a rival. He wont play well for them, and would leave them stuck paying his salary.
He can’t dictate. He is severely overpaid and no one is willing to trade for him. He has to be released or stay at the backup.
Seems that Jones is holding up the process. After the owners meeting convenes, there should be no reason why Jones would hold on to Romo. I understand business reasons as stated by others…. but no one wants to inherit that contract and give up a draft pick as well…. and no one will. If Jones does what he said he was going to do… which is “do right by Romo”….. he would release him. Let Romo choose his own destiny. Again, no one will trade for him… jeez….
