The Browns will not trade the No. 1 overall selection for a quarterback, head coach Hue Jackson tells Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com. While the Browns are expected to “make another run” at Patriots signal-caller Jimmy Garoppolo, any potential deal will have to be consummated without the first overall pick involved.

“Until we have the guy that we feel comfortable with that will be the face of our franchise, and play QB the way we want them top play, we’re going to keep searching,” said Jackson. “There’s the draft that’s coming up. There’s trade opportunities hopefully. We’ll exhaust every opportunity.’’
Garoppolo is likely the only quarterback for whom Cleveland would have considered parting with the No. 1 pick, but as Jackson says, the club will continue to hunt for another passer this offseason. In addition to Garoppolo, the Browns could consider trading for Bengals backup A.J. McCarron, whom Jackson coached in Cincinnati. While the Bengals aren’t necessarily shopping McCarron, they’re likely open to proposals, and Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com hinted earlier this week that Cincinnati could consider a trade of McCarron and pick No. 9 for pick Nos. 12 and 33.
The Browns could also target a quarterback in the draft, either at selection No. 1 or No. 12, and they’ve been linked to a list of options that includes Mitch Trubisky, Deshaun Watson, DeShone Kizer, and Patrick Mahomes.
Will this madness never end?
if your Cincinnati just trade McCarron for #33. why swap 9 and 12?
33? McCarron isn’t worth that high a pick.
I think we see jimmy end up in Cleveland for their 12, a 2nd and a 1 next year.
rediculous price but gms are nutty with young qbs
Will never, ever happen.
You can’t even say it’ll never happen. Anything is possible.
What’s the point of having discussion over what’s possible vs. what’s reasonable?
I think #12 this year, 2nd round this year and a 3-4th round next year. No way they get two 1st round picks for him.
Still wrong
I’m just guessing that the Patriots want the #12 pick and #33 this year and a second round pick next year.
It’s good to want things
This is huge because the previous statement was they wouldn’t trade a first round pick. They have something cooking with #12 for Garoppolo or McCarron.
If i was Cleveland,i wouldnt give up 12 for Garoppolo or McCarron.Garoppolo couldnt even make it through the 4 games New England needed him,and McCarron hasnt done anything in the league to bring his stock up to a 1.not even a late 1,let alone #12.
Honestly I don’t trust anything from Cabot anymore anyways. Now that is an interesting offer the one guy from the Bengals said, but if the Browns do that, I don’t think they would offer 33, it would be 52 to be sincere. I mean it also depends on who falls to number 9, like if Hooker/Adams is there at 9 and the Bengals take 12 and 52 for 9 and McCarron, I almost would have to say take the deal. Though honestly I see the Browns trading back from 12 to get more picks (aka into the 20 area) since that would merit either another 2nd round pick this season/multiple third round picks, a 3rd this year and another 2nd next year, etc
I could honestly see that, if there was someone there at #9 that the Browns didn’t think would make it to #12. I would absolutely make the trade of #12 and #52 for McCarron and #9.
If that trade doesn’t go through, they could always trade down from #12, then offer #52 and another 2nd next year or something like that for McCarron.
Chances the Bengals take a 3rd for McCarron? Zero.
And who exactly mentioned the Bengals taking a 3rd for McCarron?
Oh the Browns! Let’s get a car engine and attach it to a push lawnmower. Trading a 1st round pick for Garroppolo makes no sense. He would give them 2 to 3 wins tops. I hate the fact that I don’t have a better solution but an estimated 2-14 without Garroppolo vs 5-11 with him is not worth losing a 1st round pick.
