Josh Gordon has teamed with an interesting trainer in an effort to make yet another NFL comeback. But he will probably have to do it on another team.
Although the Browns still control his rights — for two more years — they are likely going to try to trade the mercurial wide receiver, Mary Kay Cabot of cleveland.com reports. The Browns attempted to unload Gordon at the trade deadline last year. However, if they are unable to swing a trade, a source informs Cabot they will likely release him.
Gordon, of course, is still suspended. Dan Graziano of ESPN.com reports Gordon’s camp expects to hear about a Roger Goodell reinstatement ruling within the next month, but Graziano adds Cleveland plans to jettison the 25-year-old former All-Pro via trade or release. Gordon applied for reinstatement earlier this month.
For now, Gordon is being trained by former Olympian Tim Montgomery, Graziano reports. The ex-world 100-meter record holder banned for performance-enhancing drugs and later imprisoned for heroin possession and distribution, Montgomery has rebounded in part by training Gordon and other athletes in Gainesville, Fla., as a speed coach. Gordon has also changed agents. Joby Branion, the agent for Von Miller, now represents him, Graziano reports. Business manager Michael Johnson said earlier this month the pass-catcher is in “the best shape of his life” earlier this month. This offseason regimen may shed some light on that assessment, but Gordon’s NFL future is very much in doubt.
The league reinstated Gordon last year, but the embattled wideout checked into a rehab center and did not play in 2016. The 2013 All-Pro remains banned indefinitely and hasn’t played since the final six weeks of the 2014 season.
Cleveland drafted Corey Coleman in the first round last year, and although Terrelle Pryor signed with the Redskins, the Browns also now employ Kenny Britt as well. Hue Jackson said after Gordon became sidetracked again last October the team was planning to move on from him.
I would like to see Pittsburgh go after him. An offense with Brown, Bryant, Gordon, Bell, and Ben would be unstoppable.
Unfortunately, most of the time at least one of those guys would be suspended.
That’s a terrible situation for him to go too
He’s training with Montgomery? Oh, geez, this just gets better and better.
Who’s next to join his training squad, Victor Conte?
I hope he doesn’t get to New England, but that would be the ideal landing spot for him to avoid his demons and get his once promising career back on track.
Bilichik has shown a willingness to take a chance on previously troubled talented players who are willing and committed into buying into the team first philosophy.
Randy Maw
Corey Dillon
Ocho Cinco
Fat Albert Haynesworth
Potentially Revis again
Not saying all those players bought in.. he released Ocho Cinco and Haynesworth when he realized they weren’t proper fits for The Patriot Way, but I’m saying he took a chance on them. If Gordon truly is a lost cause, Bilichik would try to put him in a position for success, but he’d release him as well if needed.
Bill keeps the clean and paid so they don’t rat him out for cheating!
Cowboys for Romo. (It’d never happen for a multitude of reasons but would benefit both squads.)
Gordon and Bryant? Might as well grab Johnny Football at that point to finish it off.
Yeah Dez has so much in common with those two
You must not be familiar with Bryant’s history. I recommend you look it up.
To NOLA for a 7th Rd draft pick… he’s worth a shot for a 7th Rd pick. And you put him with Brees, Thomas, Snead, and draft a pass rusher, a DB, and with your 2nd Rd pick, draft Evan Engram.
Saw a Browns reporter say he could be traded to Buffalo along with a 4th round pick, in a swap where Buffalo moves down to pick #12 and Cleveland gets pick #10.
Buffalo is probably the only place where he could walk in and immediately claim a #2 WR role, with no competition to worry about.
But although he’d be a solid addition, I’d much rather the Bills stay put and draft Mike Williams or Corey Davis.
(Andre Holmes and Philly Brown are fine WR’s for #3 and #4 roles, not sure Gordon is worth the trouble to risk a chance at Williams or Davis in the draft.)
He’d be a definite #2 in Philly as well as many other places. Wherever he lands I’m sure he’ll put up huge numbers, provided he stays clean and in the lineup.
If the Browns have to give up a 4th in addition to Gordon just to move up 2 spots, thanks but no thanks. The 4th by itself would probably be enough to make that move without even including Gordon.
A 7th round pick? Lol, good luck.
You think hes worth more than that? You fail to read the part where if he doesnt get traded they will likely release him, that means that a 7th could get a trade facilitated, they are looking for best offer and if it happens to be a 7th so be it.
Browns wants a trade for GP pats should do it with a draft pick and Gordon. Take the chances even we don’t need him. Imagine an offense of cooks, edelman, Gordon, gronk, Allen, Mitchell…Brady would go ham. Man that would be unfair and will never happen. Would be epic to see though. #PatsNation
There’s a point where too much star power can hurt the team. There’s too many mouths to feed in that offense, something is going to give.
I think the 49ers should take a look. This guy is good enough to help with the quart back issue and he could be had cheap. It’s not like he’s going to destroy the chemistry in sf, and I’m still pissed the 9ers cut Alton smith loose. Teams shouldn’t abandon
You’re pissed they cut Aldon Smith loose? Are you crazy? Lol. I’m a life long 9ers fan and at first I was mad but it was the best decision! He’s barely payed since then and is back in trouble again. He is a complete wreck and his career is over! The 9ers and the NFL gave him way too many chances!
I would absolutely love to see Josh Gordon with the Niners. But Aldon Smith? They gave him several chances, and he was arrested for DUIs multiple times. Josh Gordon failed drug tests and had one DUI. I think Josh has turned things around. I could be wrong, but he absolutely deserves a chance to prove it.
Obviously everyone will say NE because Bill goes after guys sometimes that have a bad rep but I don’t see him doing it with this guy. I can see the Cowboys going after him, the Panthers, the Saints, the Colts and the 49ers.
i think cleve is gonna keep flash gordon
and all this other stuff is a smoke screen
I hope he goes to the Niners. But either way, I just hope he’s reinstated.
Smoke screen, no pun intended…
To the pats for the rights to a buy one get one coupon for NE clam chowder .
Better off keeping him rather than a 7th round pick. If they trade him it should be conditional……no comp if he gets suspended and rising value based on performance.
Exactly. For a 7th rounder you’d have 31 teams stepping up. Proper deal would be exactly what you said.
Falcons could get him and look like this
Jones
Sanu
Gabriel
Gordon
No way, you don’t want him. His talent is undeniable, I’m a browns fan. He will never get on the field though. He cannot put the pipe down.
No he hasn’t, you cannot trust this guy. Just like manziel
Philly takes chances. But I could see him with KC too. He could do well with Reid.
Cleveland would be dumb not to give him a chance and use him as a trade piece after the season if they own his rights for two more years.
Gordon is from Texas and went to Baylor. Dak and Dez need a strong #2… Imagine Gordon with them and Zeke… Superbowl?
Or trade to patriots with the number 12 a 3rd for garoppolo hmmm.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.
No
That’s what we said last year, time to move on sorry.
If your usi g Mary Kay Cabot as a source do not print the story. Find someone with credibility. If she is your source its fake news.
You are an idiot. Jimmy G is not worth a #12. I’d offer new england a basket of baseballs. Cody Kessler i just as good as Jimmy G.
Hue never said the Browns were done with Josh Gordon. He said they were not discussing him anymore after he placed himself into rehab.
Hue meant since he wasn’t on the team, they wouldn’t talk of him until he was cleared and back on the roster. Best player on the Browns and Browns lose nothing by keeping him even if he did mess up again. Then they would just waive him and then be done with it.
IMO the Browns have gone through a lot of crap with this. They have his rights for 2 more years. I say keep him and play him. He obviously can’t screw up anymore so we might finally get the guy we’ve been wanting to see. Pryor is gone. Gotta keep and play him.
