The Bears have released defensive lineman Ego Ferguson, according to a team announcement. He’ll now go through the waiver process. If every team passes on him, he’ll be a free agent early next week. 
Ferguson, a second-round pick of the old regime, played in only four games in 2015 due to injuries and a suspension. Then, he missed the entire 2016 season with a shoulder injury. In total, he appeared in only 20 games since being drafted in 2014. In that time, the 25-year-old (26 in September) has compiled 26 tackles, two sacks, and three passes defended.
The Bears shopped Ferguson in September 2016, but they were unable to find any takers. With some big name defensive linemen still on the board and the draft still on the horizon, it seems unlikely that he’ll get claimed.

Pat O’Donnell and Charles Leno were decent picks given their round and Kyle Fuller is average (not worth #14) and Kadeem Carey hasn’t had much playing time. That being said Emery was still pretty bad at drafting and led to the current situation
Luckily Pace has been really good at evaluating talent. The Bears are going in the right direction. This just goes to show how bad of a mess Emery and Trestman made.
What mess did Trestman make?
He ruined the locker room by never having control of it. Rex Tucker was an awful hire by Trestman. He eliminated leadership roles by getting rid of the captain system. He did nothing to stomp out fires when the players fought each other. He did nothing when his own coach was publicly bashing Cutler.
While they havent drafted well theyve got some good guys like Howard but how can you have a successful team when youre below average at almost every position?
Hey George and gramma, wasn’t Emery another one of your great hires? And your flunky boy Philips is still around also. Your new regime isn’t looking too good either. The fans know you don’t care because of the money you’re making and the fans know the entire McCaskey family is dumb as to how to build a team and who to hire. It’s just frustrating. GO PACKERS.

I had high hopes for Ego; came from a very good LSU team but obviously couldn’t play with the big boys and or just not very motivated. Fortunately this year draft is deep on defense. Can’t say Ryan has hit it out of the ballpar with his picks. Jury still out. This is a big year.
