Teams technically can’t talk to other team’s free agents before the “legal tampering period,” but two teams have already emerged as possible landing spots for quarterback Mike Glennon. The Bears and Jets are expected to be in the mix for him, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com (on Twitter).

Glennon, 27, went 5-13 as the Bucs starter between the 2013 and 2014 seasons. In 2015, he saw zero playing time while No. 1 overall pick Jameis Winston took over as the starter. Last year, Glennon did get to take the field, but he attempted only eleven passes in two games.
The Buccaneers expect Glennon to test the open market, but they say the door is still open for a return. With several teams in need of a starting option, I have a hard time envisioning the Buccaneers coming away as the top bidder.
Other free agent quarterback options include Nick Foles, Brian Hoyer, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Case Keenum, and Matt McGloin. In my book, Glennon ranks ahead of all of them.
Great. Another loser quarterback in Chicago. Haven’t seen this movie before. /s
You don’t think he can do an OK job, even as a bridge to a rookie QB in 2018?
He could be solid, but he’s not the answer. Waiting for the franchise quarterback to arrive is just exhausting in Chicago. I can understand his disappointment with another lost season to “bridge” to the franchise quarterback. The bridge isn’t guaranteed by any stretch of the imagination. It could be Glennon bridging to the next Tom Brady, but way more likely bridging to the next Rex Grossman.
The only way the Bears will ever have the next “Tom Brady,” is if they have an offensive line as good as Tom Brady’s offensive line. Tom Brady would suck behind the Bear’s current offensive line.
Actually the Bears O-line wasn’t all that bad in pass protection last year. Chicago finished tied for 7th in the fewest sacks allowed with 28. The same as Dallas and Tennessee.
On a side note the Pats allowed 24 sacks.
Glendon can play. He was 5-13 as a starter because he was on garbage teams. He’s big, he can progress through reads, he’s got a big arm, and he doesn’t turn it over much. 19 TDs and 9 picks in 13 games as a rookie is nothing to sneeze at. He’s going to surprise some people I think.
I agree. Could be a capable starter
Not unless they find someone to throw it to. Right now even Aaron Rodgers couldn’t win with this lame WR corps.
Glennon is not a franchise QB. He would just be a placeholder for a year, maybe two. It all depends on who the Bears draft in ’17 and ’18.
I might add that most Bears fans have been conditioned to have low expectations for starting QBs. I’m hoping the Bears buck three generations of marginally skilled QBs and take a chance on talent at the position from college ranks and commit to patiently developing them into an NFL player. Every championship team has done this, so it’s not impossible for the Bears. They just need to grow some balls.
So True.
They need to draft a quarterback every year just to see what happens. Even if it’s in the last round. I don’t know why Pace didn’t do this when he had Cutler behind center.
There’s only five or six franchise quarterbacks in the entire NFL.You don’t need a Franchise QB to win a super bowl
Glennon was on bad teams. He can manage an offense and make every throw. I saw him in college when NC State was down 42-14? at halftime and comeback and win that game. Hsnduly. Remember he’s the reason Russell Wilson ended up at Wisconsin.
If Glennon was so great why bid Tampa draft Winston to be their guy. That’s right because he isn’t. Glennon wasn’t that great in college at NCST he just decent. All he would be is bridge to our next qb, maybe better than what we have but probably not. He won’t come here anyway because we don’t have the weapons for a qb to be successful. I say stick with what we have draft 2 qbs in the draft and continue drafting until we hit on one.
They drafted Winston because he was clearly the Best prospect pick in the draft and looked potentially be a once-in-a- decade type
quarterback
I would rather spend short term cash on this kid, who actually has enough meaningful regular season tape to weight his strengths and weaknesses, rather than spend multiple high draft picks on Garapalo with virtually NO meaningful regular season tape to look at…
This is what happens when you never draft QB’s…Hey we already have bridge QBs on the roster (Hoyer,Shaw)…We need to draft 2 QBs like Wash did in 13′ (Rg3, Cousins)…And sign Chad Kelley and stash him on the practice squad…Pace does not need to sign anybody else free agent trash…
