Kirk Cousins doesn’t have a no-trade clause, but he can effectively block any potential trade by refusing to agree to a contract extension with the proposed acquiring team. With that in mind, Cousins would only accept a trade to the 49ers, John Keim of ESPN.com hears. However, Jason Cole of Bleacher Report (on Twitter) is getting different info, hearing from a source that Cousins would be open to playing for teams other than Redskins or 49ers, if that’s how things play out. The Browns, he adds, are “intriguing.”

After an abysmal 2016, it’s a bit surprising to hear that Cousins could be willing to join up with the Browns. At the same time, the team is flush with cap space and tons of draft picks, so the potential for a quick turnaround is there. Cleveland’s inability to find a franchise quarterback is well-documented and Cousins could be the guy to put a stop to their QB curse. The Browns may be prioritizing a Jimmy Garoppolo trade, but Cousins would be one heck of a consolation prize.
The Redskins are expected to tag Cousins between now and the Wednesday deadline, regardless of their longer term plans for him. Cousins, meanwhile, is unwilling to sign a long-term extension with Washington before that point.
I would love it if he came to the 9ers!
Thanks for enlightening everyone here with that vital information. *rolls eyes*
Go take a long walk off a short pier
Or, considering the story, a short walk on a long pier…..wondering what may be, at the end of it.
Ha
Gotta fix that line and get him a receiver or two to go with Smith if Smith even stays out. He will need protection because that line has been pretty shaky and we have nobody to throw to. I would love to bring Cousins over but I would hate to see him come over with nobody to throw to and have him getting killed every time he stepped back to throw.
If Cleveland drafts Garrett do you agree with the Niners selecting Wisconsin OT Ryan Ramczyk with their #2 pick? Keep in mind that Ramczyk is considered the 2017 TOP OT NFL draft prospect.
Thanks
Washington would probably LOVE that return for Cousins if it happened. I’d do it in a heartbeat if I was their GM. He’s not worth those picks AND the contract. I’m not convinced he’s a true franchise QB – one that can not only lead you deep in the playoffs but can also win a Super Bowl. Leaving a toxic environment in WAS for a worse one in SF won’t make things better for him lol.
I think with the receivers the 49ers have, Kirk could turn them into a 4-12 team no problem…
Haha nice
I would want to play in SF too instead of Washington. Who would want to spend time in DC in the winter or anytime for that matter.

Thank you
Can’t understand how anyone could think that Cousins is a consolation prize compared to Garoppolo who has a whopping two games of experience.
Christopher Sandford:
Sir, I agree with you for the most part part. I suspect your “consolation price” is NOT your best choice of words, respectfully I must add.
In fact I made the same argument. If I were an NFL GM in need of a QB the most I offer a 3rd. round draft choice assuming that draft choice comes from any of the first five NFL selecting teams.
