Despite some speculation to the contrary, left tackle Jason Peters will be back with the Eagles in 2017, Ian Rapoport of NFL.com tweets. Peters was is set to earn a $9.95MM base salary in the coming year, according to Rapoport, though Over The Cap has his base pay listed as $10.45MM.

Earlier this month, the Eagles approached Peters about taking a pay cut. Apparently, those talks were not fruitful, but the Eagles are still willing to keep Peters at his current salary. The 35-year-old may be pricey, but he is still one of the best tackles in the game. Last season, Pro Football Focus’ advanced metrics placed Peters as the eighth-best tackle in the entire league. His 88.3 overall score on PFF ranks as the third-highest showing of his career. In short: Peters is as good as ever and the Eagles are unwilling to leave Carson Wentz‘s blindside exposed.
For his career, Peters has made nine Pro Bowls and is a three-time first-team All-Pro.
Not surprised at all the pay cut talks didnt work.theres a weak market for tackles this offseason, both in free agency and the draft.good chance he would’ve made up the difference in lost salary if he hit the open market.
Honestly they need to just save the money for next year. Nothing worth blowing up the team or overspending for out there. Eagles aren’t beating the top NFC teams so no point.
You do realize we were 5-1 when we had both Peters and Johnson out there, despite the holes on the roster.and even a couple of the losses were lost on dumb calls with minutes left in the games.
On top of that, next year we’ll be able to get out of contracts like Chase Daniel and Brent Celek.
Im not saying we should blow up the roster, but anyway to add players who could be here 5 years down the road should be taken advantage of.
Eight best in the league yet they constantly talk about how he belongs in the Hall of Fame? He’s been pretty good, just not that great to go down with the greatest ever.
Being 8th best in the league at 34 is pretty darn good.and hes been that good for over a decade.
Funny but PFF had him listed among those that didn’t deserve to be in the Pro Bowl.
Why he was picked: Peters has forged a reputation as one of the best tackles over the last decade, and with no obvious line stats, he’s a “safe” pick.
Why he is a poor pick: Because there were better tackles. Peters hasn’t had a bad year—nor did he have anything close to his best. He also missed time due to injury at a position where staying on the field is huge.
“Third highest showing of his career”…so only twice was he the 7th best or better. A Hall of Fame player is one that transcends the game and/or is at the top of his position for years. He’s certainly very good, just not amongst the greatest ever.
I don’t give a you know what how good he ranks ,he could be the best .Any player not willing to rework his deal for the sake of the team can hit the bricks .Watch Eagles luck he gets season ending injury first 3 weeks of season cause HE’S OLD AND HIS POSITION AND WEIGHT ARE NOT A GOOD MIX.SO WON’T HAVE HIM NEXT YEAR ANYWAY WE WILL JUST BE PAYING HIM TO BE HURT.WATCH
