The trade deadline is 24 hours away and teams are doing their homework on Browns cornerback Joe Haden, according to Jason Cole of Bleacher Report (video link). Haden has been dealing with injuries for the last two seasons, but he is still a well above-average cornerback and could draw interest from teams looking to bolster their defense.
Haden, 27, was limited to just five games last season because of various injuries, including a concussion. Then, this past spring, he underwent left ankle surgery. It goes without saying that any interested club will want to do a thorough medical examination on the star corner before finalizing a deal.
In his five games played this year, the advanced numbers have Haden ranked as a top 30 cornerback. When he’s healthy and playing at his best, Haden has shown that he can be an elite difference-maker. However, it remains to be seen whether the Browns will be willing to part with Haden. After acquiring linebacker Jamie Collins from the Patriots earlier today, it’s possible that the Browns are not only out of selling mode, but potentially in buying mode.
Pittsburgh needs to make a move. Give them a 3rd or 4th round pick.
Yeah I’m sure that’ll do it lol
Most likely, nothing happens. The Browns probably want a 1st (never happening) or a 2nd for Haden. Who could use him? Almost everyone. Specifically contenders, or almost contenders, with bad defenses. So Pittsburgh and Atlanta come to mind. PIT doesn’t make many trades though. But Haden could get back together with Gilbert and make for a terrible defense just like their days together lol. ATL is more active than PIT in trades so maybe they’re a fit. Or maybe some stupid GM who thinks he has a shot at the SB, but doesn’t, makes a bold and dumb move. Could be PHI, DAL, OAK, or MIN.
I think PHI and MIN are content with their corners. If anything they’re looking for a core running back. Which most likely won’t happen unless a team is overwhelmed with an offer. DAL is interesting though with all of their consistent injuries. I think the Dak or Tony ordeal will overshadow any moves that would occur though.
The Packers usually don’t make much noise on the trade front but Haden could definitely provide a boost to their secondary that right now has their top 3 CBs injured. I’d give a 3rd or 4th round pick for Haden in a heartbeat.
I think the biggest hangup for a trade with Haden is his contract. Not sure if the teams that actually need him have enough cap room, or could make cap room easily.
