We learned earlier today that Jets quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick is expected to reach the free agent market Wednesday. Should that happen, the team that drafted him – the Rams – could be among his suitors if the price is reasonable, according to Vincent Bonsignore of the Los Angeles Daily News (Twitter link).
Fitzpatrick, 33, looks primed to join Denver’s Brock Osweiler as one of the top two quarterbacks available in free agency this year. The 11-year veteran is coming off the best season of his career, having thrown for nearly 4,000 yards to go along with 31 touchdowns against 15 interceptions. Fitzpatrick, who has started for six different teams since the Rams took him in the seventh round of the 2005 draft, made $3.25MM last season during a 10-6 campaign for the Jets and could be in line for as much as $10MM to $15MM per annum on his next deal.
During his two seasons with the St. Louis Rams, Fitzpatrick appeared in five games and threw four TDs against eight picks. He has improved significantly since then, though, and would be an on-paper upgrade over incumbent Los Angeles signal-callers Case Keenum and Nick Foles.

I really hope Fitzpatrick goes to the rams. Having his career in a warmer less windy climate might help. The issue is all the stats fans and media are applauding Fitzpatrick for can be directly correlated to his two wideouts. All of his other stats are ranked 24th and lower, like passer rating, completion rating, yards per attempt, and interception which was 5th most.
Jets losing both ivory and fitz could collapse the offense for them next season they better have a backup or draft a quarterback or their offense is shot without two leaders
That division isn’t any easier to win than the AFC East. Probably harder..
As I have said before if another team is idiotic enough to pay Fitz more than $15 mil per season, please, by all means take him & may God bless you. I’d bring in RG III in to compete with Geno for half the price. Have we forgotten the Jets gave up a conditional 7th to bring in Fitz as Geno’s “backup”! The Rams will be Fitz’ 7th team. Please.
Does anyone seriously believe the Rams have a chance to win the West with Fitz as there starter? Paying him $15 mil or more for at least 2 seasons should really help too.
Fitz has neither the skill, talent, upside, pedigree or age of Bradford, Cousins or Brock. He has had 2 “decent” seasons under Chan Gailey in 11 seasons. If & when he leaves the Jets he will be his 7th team. He had his 1st winning season “ever” with Marshall & Decker at WR & Ivory & Powell at RB. Also, an OL that gave up 22 sacks & has 3 previous 1st rounders. Paying him what these other QB’s are getting, around $16 mil per is simply insane.
