Titans To Sign Will Svitek

The Titans are signing veteran tackle Will Svitek, according to John Glennon of The Tennessean (on Twitter). The 32-year-old (33 in January) appeared in 13 games for the Pats in 2013 with two starts.

According to the metrics at Pro Football Focus (subscription required), the Titans have been in the middle of the pack in run blocking and pass blocking so far in 2014. As noted by ESPN.com’s Paul Kuharsky yesterday, the Titans have spent nearly $30MM on their offensive line this season and the return has not matched the investment. Looking at a simpler metric, through six games, the Titans rank 29th in sacks per pass play. Things didn’t get any easier for Tennessee this year when they lost tackle Michael Roos to a season-ending knee injury.

The Titans are 2-4 this season with wins at the bookends. On Sunday they’ll travel to Landover, Maryland to face the 1-5 Redskins.

Bengals Cut Danieal Manning, Down To 53

After parting ways with veteran running back BenJarvus Green-Ellis yesterday, the Bengals listed another familiar name among their final wave of cuts today, with safety Danieal Manning receiving his release. Per a series of tweets from the team, here’s the complete list of transactions that got the roster count down to 53 players:

Bengals Sign Will Svitek, Cut Two Players

The Bengals have announced a series of roster moves, officially signing two players and cutting two to make room. According to the club (via Twitter), offensive tackle Will Svitek and cornerback Victor Hampton have been signed, while cornerback Brandon Burton and linebacker Bruce Taylor have been waived.

Svitek, who entered the league as a sixth-round pick in 2005, has spent time with the Chiefs, Falcons, and Patriots. The 32-year-old played 238 offensive snaps for New England last season, earning a pair of starts at right tackle during the season in relief of Marcus Cannon. As for Hampton, his signing was first reported by his agent yesterday, a day before he was scheduled to visit the Giants.

Meanwhile, Taylor didn’t appear in a single game for the Bengals last season, while Burton played in five contests, primarily as a special-teamer.
