Titans Place TE MyCole Pruitt, CB Breon Borders On Reserve/COVID-19 List

The Titans added two more players to their extensive reserve/COVID-19 list Thursday, placing tight end MyCole Pruitt and practice squad cornerback Breon Borders on the list.

On Wednesday, a report indicated the Titans had two more positive coronavirus tests. But the team only added Corey Davis to its COVID list. Another positive was reported today, and two more names now appear on Tennessee’s list.

The list, as of Thursday afternoon: Davis, fellow receiver Adam Humphries, defensive linemen Jeffery Simmons and DaQuan Jones, cornerback Kristian Fulton, tackle Isaiah Wilson, outside linebacker Kamalei Correa, fullback Khari Blasingame, long snapper Beau Brinkley, Pruitt, Borders and fellow practice squad players Tommy Hudson, Cameron Batson and Greg Mabin. Twenty-three members of the Titans organization have now tested positive.

Sunday’s Titans-Bills game in Nashville remains a go, though it seems a postponement announcement could come soon. The Titans already had a game postponed because of this outbreak, with their Steelers matchup now moved to Week 7. Even with the NFL expanding practice squads to 16 in this unique year, the string of Titans positive tests point to another rescheduling. The Titans have not been able to practice in nearly two weeks, with each positive test keeping their facility closed. Titans offsite workouts have also prompted an NFL investigation.

A former fifth-round Vikings pick, Pruitt has been an supporting-cast tight end with the team since 2018. A former Raiders UDFA, Borders has only been with Tennessee for a couple weeks. The Titans added him to their practice squad September 21.

Additionally, the Titans announce Hudson — a practice squad tight end — has drawn a six-game PED suspension.

Latest On Titans-Vikings COVID-19 Situation

The Titans and Vikingsfootball activities are on hold for the time being due to a Titans coronavirus outbreak. Here is the latest from perhaps the NFL’s defining September story:

  • The NFL is keeping open the possibility of moving the Steelers-Titans game to Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN.com tweets. The league wants to keep the Tennessee home game scheduled for Sunday but views Monday as a contingency plan that would allow more time for testing and contract tracing.
  • Some of the players involved in the outbreak have surfaced. The Titans have placed defensive lineman DaQuan Jones, long snapper Beau Brinkley and practice squad tight end Tommy Hudson on the reserve/COVID-19 list, ESPN.com’s Field Yates and NFL.com’s Tom Pelissero report (Twitter links). Three Titans players have tested positive for the virus, though it is not known if these are the three. Eight Titans players and staffers combined are believed to have tested positive. The five non-players who tested positive were all football-side staffers, Albert Breer of SI.com notes. This includes outside linebackers coach Shane Bowen, who received word of his positive test Saturday.
  • While the Titans are closing their facility doors until Saturday, the Vikings will not practice until at least Thursday, Breer tweets. The NFL has suspended in-person activities for both teams until further notice. The Vikings are set to play the Texans on Sunday in Houston. Both Minnesota and Tennessee’s games are scheduled for noon CT.
  • Family members of Titans and Vikings players and staffers will be tested as well, the league announced. No players and staffers were tested on Sunday, with the COVID-19 protocols stipulating tests occur daily but not on game days.
  • Referee Clete Blakeman’s crew, which worked Sunday’s Titans-Vikings game, will not work a Week 4 contest, according to Kevin Seifert of ESPN.com (on Twitter). The crew will undergo daily testing this week.

Titans Place T Isaiah Wilson On Reserve/COVID-19 List, Set Practice Squad

The Titans may begin the season without their first-round pick. They placed Isaiah Wilson on the reserve/COVID-19 list, Field Yates of ESPN.com tweets.

This marks the second time the first-round tackle has landed on the COVID list. Players do not have to test positive to be placed on the list; they can land there if they come in contact with an infected person.

Wilson, a Georgia alum, spent roughly a week on the COVID list earlier this summer. Given Tennessee’s investment, he projects as a player who will at some point become Jack Conklin‘s replacement at right tackle. However, the Titans may not have him to start the season.

In other Titans roster moves, running back Senorise Perry and cornerback Chris Milton will join the team’s 53-man roster. To clear the other roster spot, the Titans placed safety Dane Cruikshank on IR. Players who are carried onto the regular-season roster do not have to miss a full season if placed on IR. This season, players who land on IR can return after three weeks.

Tennessee also set its practice squad Sunday. Trevor Siemian agreed to sign on. The Titans signed the former Broncos starter-turned-journeyman backup late this offseason but did not carry him through to their 53-man roster. He will instead serve as an emergency quarterback of sorts.
