Seahawks Re-Sign Bates, Jeanpierre To IR

The Seahawks have re-signed wide receiver Phil Bates while putting center Lemuel Jeanpierre on injured reserve, according to Bob Condotta of The Seattle Times (on Twitter). Moving Jeanpierre to IR gives Seattle an additional roster spot to work with and Bates will join the 53-man roster (link).

Jeanpierre suffered a serious neck injury and is not designated to return, meaning he is done for the season. Bates, meanwhile, had been released earlier in the week.

In related moves, Seattle also released wide receiver Chris Matthews, offensive lineman Nate Isles, and defensive back Terrance Parks off the practice squad (link). In their place, the Seahawks will welcome linebacker Allen Bradford along with offensive linemen David Arkin and Drew Nowak (link).

Sunday Transactions: NFC West

Listed below are the Sunday roster moves for the four NFC West teams. Following the 53-man roster cutdown deadline yesterday, many teams will make slight tweaks to their rosters, claiming players off waivers or signing guys who clear waivers. Those transactions are noted below.

Additionally, as of 11:00am CT today, teams can begin constructing their 10-man practice squads. For the 2014 and 2015 seasons, changes were made to practice squad rules that allow teams to carry eight players instead of 10, and the eligibility requirements for those extra two spots were also loosened. You can check out our glossary entry on practice squads to brush up on those changes, as well as all the other guidelines that govern the 10-man units, whose players practice with the team but aren’t eligible to suit up on Sundays.

Here are Sunday’s NFC West transactions, which will continue to be updated throughout the day:

Arizona Cardinals:

San Francisco 49ers:

Seattle Seahawks:

  • Signed to practice squad (officially announced): Jimmy Staten, DT (Staten on Twitter), RaShaun Allen, TE; Demitrius Bronson, RB; B.J. Daniels, QB; Nate Isles, OT; Chris Matthews, WR; Terrance Parks, S; Steven Terrell, S.

St. Louis Rams:

Seahawks Roster Down to 53

The Seahawks have stayed relatively quiet the past 24 hours, but they did manage to steal a couple of headlines. Yesterday, the team waived Terrelle Pryor, and they followed that up by releasing veteran offensive tackle Eric Winston earlier today. The team also acquired defensive back Marcus Burley from the Colts.

The team eventually revealed the rest of their moves via a press release, and the team’s transactions are listed below:

Seahawks Sign Beckum, Parks, Taylor

7:37pm: Former Giants tight end Travis Beckum was also signed by the Seahawks, according to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport (via Twitter). Beckum, a third-round draft choice in 2009, has not played since suffering a knee injury in New York’s Super Bowl win after the 2011 season. He was on injured reserve for the duration of 2012 and out of the league in 2013.

The team also announced that it signed 6-foot-2-inch defensive back Terrance Parks, who last played with Hamilton of the Canadian Football league after being spending the 2012 training camp with the Chiefs.

2:32pm: The Seahawks have signed linebacker Mike Taylor, reports Tyler Dunne of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. Taylor appears to be rejoining Seattle on a reserve/futures contract after briefly being signed to the team’s practice squad in December.

Taylor, who released by the Seahawks after spending Week 15 on the team’s practice squad, played his college ball at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. Although Taylor earned first team All-Big Ten honors in his senior year, multiple sports hernia operations sidelined him for the combine and his pro day, and he went undrafted in 2013. He has yet to appear in an NFL game.

Following the Super Bowl, the Seahawks also signed nine other players to reserve deals.
