Shane McDermott

Minor NFL Transactions: 12/3/16

Here are today’s minor moves.

  • Jerry Attaochu underwent surgery this week, and the Chargers made the customary move of placing the third-year pass-rusher on IR. Nose tackle Ryan Carrethers will take Attaochu’s roster spot, Michael Gehlken of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports (on Twitter). A former fifth-round Chargers pick in 2014, Carrethers already has 20 games of NFL experience — three starts — on which to draw after his latest promotion from the practice squad.
  • Demetri Goodson‘s third NFL season will conclude after the Packers placed the cornerback on IR and signed fellow corner Makinton Dorleant off their practice squad, Michael Cohen of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports (on Twitter). Goodson played in six games for the Packers this year and started three for a team that’s struggled to keep its cornerbacks healthy. A rookie UDFA, Dorleant has not played in an NFL game yet. He’ll likely contribute on special teams, per Cohen.
  • The Bills have promoted tight end Gerald Christian from the practice squad, reports Vic Carucci of the Buffalo News (via Twitter). Starter Charles Clay missed the team’s flight to Oakland due to the birth of his child, so Christian, the Mr. Irrelevent from the 2015 draft, will provide some depth at tight end. To make room on the roster, the team released kickoff specialist Jordan Gay.
  • The Chiefs have promoted defensive tackle T.J. Barnes to the active roster, reports Terez A. Paylor of The Kansas City Star (via Twitter). If Dontari Poe is unable to play, Barnes could slide into the backup nose tackle role behind Jarvis Jenkins.
  • The Giants have signed linebacker Deontae Skinner to the active roster and waived center Shane McDermott, reports James Kratch of NJ.com (via Twitter). This is a flip-flop from the maneuver the Giants made last weekend, indicating some improved health for their offensive front.

Minor NFL Transactions: 11/19/16

Here are today’s minor moves.

  • On a day that featured more impactful Steelers transactions, the team promoted running back Daryl Richardson from its practice squad, Joe Rutter of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports. Richardson’s being promoted to compensate for DeAngelo Williams‘ second straight absence with a knee injury. The former Rams contributor has taken two handoffs this season, now Richardson’s fifth, gaining seven yards.
  • Once given a chance to win a starting inside linebacker job with the Packers, Carl Bradford will return to Green Bay’s active roster after logging extensive time on its practice squad, Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com reports. The third-year linebacker will replace tight end Justin Perillo, whom the team cut as it prepares for the likely return of Jared Cook. A former fourth-round pick in 2014, Bradford has yet to play in a regular-season game.
  • To make room for their addition of long snapper Rick Lovato, the Redskins cut defensive tackle Jordan Hill, John Keim of ESPN.com reports. Washington signed Hill, a former regular rotation player in Seattle, earlier this month after the Seahawks cut him from their IR list.
  • The Bears promoted defensive lineman Jimmy Staten from their practice squad and cut cornerback De’Vante Bausby, Rich Campbell of the Chicago Sun-Times reports (on Twitter). Like Hill, Staten is a former Seahawks draft choice, arriving in Seattle via fifth-round pick in 2014. A product of Division II Pittsburg State, Bausby has a seven-tackle game to his credit during his rookie season, making seven stops against the Packers last month.
  • The Giants promoted interior offensive lineman Shane McDermott off their practice squad and waived linebacker Deontae Skinner, James Kratch of NJ.com tweets. A guard/center, McDermott could be insurance for interior-line backup Adam Gettis, Kratch notes, for a Giants team that recently lost Justin Pugh and Brett Jones. McDermott has yet to play in an NFL game. Skinner hasn’t played in one since 2014, when he played in seven and started in one for the Patriots.

NFL Workout Notes: Falcons, Lions, Redskins

Former New England defensive end Rufus Johnson worked out for the Falcons today, according to a source who spoke with Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle (Twitter link). Johnson has made the rounds on the workout circuit since getting waived off the Patriots’ practice squad in September. Atlanta also took a look at quarterback Ricky Stanzi, wide receivers Max McCaffrey and Anthony Dable, and defensive ends Lawrence Okoye and Arthur Miley, tweets Adam Caplan of ESPN.com.
