Hageman, whom the Falcons selected in the second round of the 2014 draft, hasn’t appeared in a regular season game since 2016. He signed a one-year pact with Atlanta in April, but he was slapped with a two-game suspension for violating the league’s substance abuse policy, and he was waived/injured off of the reserve/suspended list in September.

From 2014-16, Hageman accumulated four sacks and 62 total tackles.

Falcons Waive/Injured DT Ra’Shede Hageman

Ra’Shede Hageman‘s second stint with the Falcons has come to an end. The team announced today that they have waive/injured the defensive tackle from the reserve/suspended list.

The 2014 second-round pick out of Minnesota was productive during his first two years in the NFL, including a 2015 campaign where he finished with 27 tackles and one sack in 16 games (12 starts). However, he was demoted to a backup role during the Falcons 2016 season.

Prior to the 2017 season, Hageman was placed on the Commissioner’s Exempt List following domestic violence charges. He was subsequently released by the Falcons, and he ended up sitting out the 2017 and 2018 campaign. Atlanta gave him a second chance this offseason, signing him to a one-year deal. However, the defensive lineman was quickly slapped with a two-game suspension for violating the league’s substance abuse policy.

The Falcons will move forward with their trio of defensive tackles: Grady Jarrett, Tyeler Davison, and Deadrin Senat.

Falcons Sign DT Ra’Shede Hageman

Ra’Shede Hageman is back in the NFL, and right back where it all started. Hageman is signing with the Falcons, the team that drafted him in the second round back in 2014, according to Darren Wolfson of KSTP TV (Twitter link). It’s a one-year deal, tweets Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.

Hageman met with the Falcons last week, so we knew they were interested in a reunion. He’s been out of the league for a couple of years now but drew some legit interest, as the Vikings apparently kicked the tires. Hageman was the 37th overall pick of the 2014 draft, and his career got off to a decent start. But following a domestic violence incident, Hageman was placed on the commissioner’s exempt list in September of 2017 and released not long after.

He was ultimately suspended by the league for six games. He spent the entire 2017 season out of football, and drew interest from the Patriots and Seahawks last offseason but didn’t sign. He was then arrested for a DWI last June. At the time we heard of the Vikings’ interest, the former Minnesota Gopher talked about the need to prove he’d changed off the field.

“It’s been one heck of a two years sitting out and just watching my fellow teammates play, but it’s definitely a learning experience,” Hageman said. “The whole process is just getting back in everybody’s ear (with NFL teams) about me staying out of trouble. You can’t beat around the bush. They obviously want to see consistency with me. I’m letting everybody know that my past is my past.”

Hageman was hit with a two-game suspension for his DWI arrest, so he won’t be eligible to play for the first two games of the 2019 season. He appeared in 44 games with 16 starts during his three years in Atlanta.

Falcons Meet With DT Ra’Shede Hageman

The Falcons are thinking about reuniting with Ra’Shede Hageman. The defensive tackle met with Atlanta brass last week, according to Darren Wolfson of’ KSTP TV (on Twitter). 

Hageman, 29 in August, was a second-round pick of the Falcons in 2014. He appeared in 44 games (16 starts) in his three seasons with the club, but he was cut loose in September 2017 shortly before the NFL handed him a six-game ban stemming from a domestic violence arrest.

Hageman, who has not been on the field since the 2016 season, is looking to work his way back into the NFL. If he signs with the Falcons or any other club, he’ll first have to serve a two-game suspension for driving while impaired.

The Falcons aren’t the only club with interest in Hageman. The Vikings also considered the University of Minnesota product late last month, though it’s not clear if he’s still on their radar.

Vikings Interested In DT Ra’Shede Hageman

Defensive tackle Ra’Shede Hageman hasn’t seen the field in two years due to a myriad of off-field issues, but the Vikings and four other unidentified clubs have reached out to express interest in the former second-round pick, according to Chris Tomasson of the Pioneer Press.

Hageman is still only 28 years old, but he hasn’t been heard from since being cut by Atlanta in September of 2017. After being arrested on domestic violence charges in 2016, Hageman was placed on the commissioner’s exempt list prior to the 2017 campaign. The Falcons subsequently waived Hageman, and he was then handed a six-week suspension by the NFL, a ban which he fulfilled as a free agent. Hageman was arrested again last June for suspicion of fourth-degree driving while impaired.

All told, Hageman appeared in 44 of Atlanta’s 48 regular-season games and combined for 15 starts during his three-year tenure with the club.

Hageman has drawn free agent interest before, as he was linked to the Seahawks and Patriots (the latter of whom put him through a workout) last spring. The Vikings would offer a homecoming of sorts for Hageman, and the club could use a defensive tackle after losing Sheldon Richardson to the Browns.

Ra’Shede Hageman Arrested

Ra’Shede Hageman‘s odds of returning to the NFL just got a little slimmer. Per Paul Walsh of the Star Tribune, Hageman, currently a free agent, was arrested in Hennepin County, Minnesota early Saturday morning on suspicion of fourth-degree driving while impaired. He was released on his own recognizance and has a hearing set for June 21.

This is not the first time the former Golden Gopher has gotten into legal trouble. Hageman, whom the Falcons selected in the second round of the 2014 draft, was arrested on domestic violence charges in 2016, and teams have been keeping their distance from him ever since. Last year, Hageman was placed on the commissioner’s exempt list prior to the start of the season, and the Falcons subsequently waived him. After that, he was hit with a six-week suspension by the league, a ban that he served as a free agent.

He showed some promise before falling out of favor with the league, and Atlanta coaches were impressed with his progress before the team chose to part ways with him. The Seahawks expressed interest in him in April, and the Patriots brought him in for a visit last month, but neither club was intrigued enough to sign him.

Now, of course, he will find it even harder to get a job in the league, regardless of how his DWI case is resolved. He ultimately pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges stemming from his prior arrest, though the domestic violence count was dropped pursuant to the terms of the plea deal.

Hageman has put together 16 starts (out of a possible 48 regular season games) and four sacks in his professional career.

Patriots Work Out DT Ra’Shede Hageman

Former Falcons defensive tackle Ra’Shede Hageman worked out for the Patriots on Wednesday, according to the league’s transaction wire. This marks the first workout of the offseason for the free agent.

Hageman was arrested on domestic violence charges in 2016 and teams have been keeping their distance from him ever since. Last year, Hageman was placed on the commissioner’s exempt list prior to the start of the season and the Falcons subsequently waived him. After that, he was hit with a six-week suspension by the league, a ban which he fulfilled as a free agent.

The Seahawks expressed interest in Hageman last month, but things didn’t really develop beyond that point. The Pats are the first team to bring him in for an audition this spring.

Hageman was a second-round pick in 2014 after he put together an impressive highlight reel at the University of Minnesota. Before he was let go by the Falcons, team coaches were reportedly enamored with his progress.

The Patriots will have to take a deep look into his situation before getting into business with him, but Hageman could be a low-cost and potentially high reward signing for them. The Patriots have Lawrence Guy, Danny Shelton, and Malcom Brown in their defensive tackle rotation, but Hageman would give them another talented option in the mix.

Ra’Shede Hageman Gets Six-Week Ban

The NFL has handed free agent defensive lineman Ra’Shede Hageman a six-week suspension as a result of a March 2016 domestic violence arrest, Ian Rapoport of NFL.com reports (via Twitter). Hageman faced misdemeanor charges of battery, cruelty to children, and interfering with calls for emergency assistance on the heels of his arrest, and the league began investigating him in September 2016.

Although Hageman escaped serious legal punishment, his off-field issues led the Falcons to part with him on Sept. 4. At that point, the league placed the 27-year-old on the commissioner’s exempt list as it continued its investigation.

“Really as an organization, we weren’t comfortable with where things were,” head coach Dan Quinn said after the Falcons cut Hageman (via Vaughn McClure of ESPN.com). “As you know, it’s an ongoing investigation through the league, so I won’t comment much further past that.”

Hageman was someone the Falcons had high hopes for before he forced them to move on from him.
