49ers Move Marcus Martin To IR

The 49ers have now placed two centers on IR this season after moving Marcus Martin to the season-ending injured list. He joins Daniel Kilgore and several other San Francisco starters there.

San Francisco filled Martin’s roster spot by promoting running back Raheem Mostert from its practice squad.

Martin became a key member of the 49ers’ front in both the 2014 and ’15 seasons after subbing in for Kilgore following the starter’s severe leg injury. The former third-round draft choice received more than a season’s worth of starts during Kilgore’s recovery, but after the first-stringer returned last December, Martin hasn’t factored in as much this season. However, Kilgore’s return trip to IR earlier this month opened the door for two more Martin starts.

The 49ers previously ruled out Martin for their Week 17 game against the Seahawks with an ankle injury. The 2-13 team now has 19 players on its IR list, including Carlos Hyde, whose MCL injury forced the team to reshuffle its backfield. Mostert caught on with the 49ers’ practice squad in late November; the second-year UDFA played in two games earlier this season for the Bears.

Bears To Waive RB/KR Raheem Mostert

The Bears are set to waive running back/kick returner Raheem Mostert, according to agent Brett Tessler (on Twitter). Tessler, with some gentle agent spin, indicates that Chicago is cutting Mostert due to “other needs.” He’ll be re-signed to Chicago’s practice squad if he clears waivers, according to Tessler. Raheem Mostert (vertical)

Mostert was signed to the Bears’ taxi squad on September 13th and was bumped up to the 53-man roster one week later after injuries to Jeremy Langford and Ka’Deem Carey. Despite being on the roster for two games, Mostert did not log a rushing attempt or return on special teams.

Mostert, a Purdue product, has traveled all over the league in his short career. He has signed deals with the Eagles, Dolphins, Ravens, Browns, Jets, and Bears since entering the league as a UDFA in 2015.

Bears Promote RB Raheem Mostert

The Bears have promoted running back Raheem Mostert from the practice squad, as agent Brett Tessler tweets. Mostert was added to the taxi squad just last week, but it didn’t take long for him to get called up to varsity.

Jeremy Langford is the primary back in Chicago, but top understudy Ka’Deem Carey is dealing with a hamstring injury. Now, rookie Jordan Howard moves up a spot on the depth chart with Mostert occupying the No. 3 RB role until Carey gets back.

Mostert, a Purdue product, has been yo-yo’d on and off different NFL rosters since joining the league as a UDFA last year. After contracts with the Eagles, Dolphins, Ravens, Browns, and Jets, Mostert is hoping to find a more permanent home in Chicago. In addition to playing tailback, Mostert could also be a factor in the return game for the Bears.
