Colts Work Out TE Larry Donnell

At this stage of the offseason, Donnell stands as one of the most notable tight ends remaining on the open market. The Grambling State product first made a name for himself in 2014 when he had a breakout season with the Giants, catching 63 passes for 623 yards and six scores. Since then, however, he has been hampered by injuries and has been unable to reprise that performance. He missed half of the 2015 season and found himself with a lesser role in the offense in 2016. Donnell is coming off of a season with just 15 catches (22 targets) for 92 yards and one score.

Adams, 29 in July, has played for six different teams across six NFL seasons. In 2016, he was out of a job, but he’s hoping to hook on with someone for the upcoming year.

AFC Rumors: Nelson, Raiders, Chiefs, Bowers

Vic Tafur of The San Francisco Chronicle (on Twitter) expects the Raiders to get a deal done with free agent safety Reggie Nelson, who is in Oakland tonight to meet with team brass and will continue his visit with the team on Tuesday. After Nelson is wined and dined and briefed on the team’s plans for him, Tafur is expecting the Raiders to ink the veteran defender, who stands as one of the best available free agents still on the board.

  • The Chiefs worked out defensive end Da’Quan Bowers and cornerback Phillip Adams yesterday, according to Adam Caplan of ESPN.com (on Twitter). Bowers, a former second-round pick of the Buccaneers, returned to Tampa Bay late last season. Adams has been with six NFL teams and could be on his way to joining his seventh.
  • Linebacker Myles Jack is among the players visiting the Jaguars today, as Michael DiRocco of ESPN.com tweets. The 6’1”, 225-pounder saw time at both inside and outside linebacker, safety, nickel corner, and running back, and even returned the occasional kick for UCLA. He’s widely regarded as one of the best players in this year’s class.
  • Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle has the details on Darryl Morris‘ one-year deal with the Jets, tweeting that the cornerback signed a minimum salary contract with a $75K signing bonus.
  • Jarvis Jenkins‘ two-year contract with the Jets calls for him to earn $6MM with $3MM ($1.5MM signing bonus + $1.5MM base) guaranteed, according to Rich Cimini of ESPN.com. Jenkins will carry a cap charge of $2.25MM in year one and $3.75MM in year two of the deal.
  • Oregon State defensive tackle Kyle Peko is visiting with the Chiefs today, according to Terez A. Paylor of the Kansas City Star (on Twitter).
  • Clemson safety Jayron Kearse is visiting the Jaguars today, Getlin tweets.

Falcons Sign Adrian Clayborn, Phillip Adams

1:45pm: The Falcons have agreed to terms with defensive end Adrian Clayborn, according to Pat Yasinkas of ESPN.com (on Twitter). The Falcons (on Twitter) have confirmed the signing of Clayborn while also announcing that they have added cornerback Phillip Adams.

Clayborn, 27 in July, played only one game for the Bucs before being placed on IR last September. He made 16 starts in 2013 at right defensive end and tallied 43 tackles and 5.5 sacks. Clayborn was hoping to establish himself in 2014, his contract year, but he didn’t get the opportunity to show what he can do before hitting open market. The Bucs declined their fifth-year option on the former No. 20 overall pick in April of 2014. Pro Football Focus’ advanced metrics (subscription required) weren’t all that fond of Clayborn’s performance in 2013, ranking him 47th out of 52 qualified 4-3 defensive ends.

Adams, 27 in July, spent two seasons with the Raiders before hooking on with the Jets last September. Adams appeared in 12 games for Gang Green, racking up 24 total tackles, three pass deflections, one fumble recovery, and one interception. The former seventh-rounder was Oakland’s primary punt returner in 2012, when he returned 25 punts for 139 yards. He finished the Raiders’ 2013 season with 30 total tackles and a fumble recovery.

 

Jets Sign Phillip Adams, Cut Quincy Enunwa

The Jets have added a veteran cornerback to their secondary, announcing today that Phillip Adams has signed with the team. To create an opening on the 53-man roster, the Jets waived wide receiver Quincy Enunwa, one of their 12 draftees this year.

Adams, 26, spent the last two seasons with the Raiders, appearing in all 16 games in 2013. The former seventh-rounder was also the team’s primary punt returner in 2012, when he returned 25 punts for 139 yards. Adams, who finished the 2013 season with 30 total tackles and a fumble recovery, joined the Seahawks for camp this year, but was part of the team’s roster cutdown this past weekend.

Adams will become part of a Jets secondary that appears to be the shakiest area of the defense heading into the 2014 season. Cornerback Dimitri Patterson was the team’s most notable free agent signing in the secondary this offseason, and he was cut by the club on Saturday after having gone AWOL last weekend.

Seahawks Roster Down to 53

The Seahawks have stayed relatively quiet the past 24 hours, but they did manage to steal a couple of headlines. Yesterday, the team waived Terrelle Pryor, and they followed that up by releasing veteran offensive tackle Eric Winston earlier today. The team also acquired defensive back Marcus Burley from the Colts.

Phillip Adams Signs With Seahawks

Cornerback Phillip Adams has signed with the Seahawks, tweets Ian Rapoport of NFL.com. The 25-year-old will add some depth to a Seattle secondary that has lost Brandon Browner and Walter Thurmond this off-season.

Adams had spent the last two season with the Raiders, appearing in all 16 games in 2013. The five-year veteran was the team’s primary punt returner in 2012, when he returned 25 punts for 139 yards. Adams finished this past season with 30 total tackles and eight punt returns.

Adams was drafted out of South Carolina State University in 2010, selected by the 49ers with the 224th overall pick. He bounced around to the Patriots and (briefly) with the Seahawks before sticking in Oakland.

Adams will likely compete with Jeremy Lane and Byron Maxwell for the number two cornerback spot on the team’s depth chart.
