Jets To Promote RB Josh Adams, Sign LB Paul Worrilow

The Jets are promoting running back Josh Adams from the practice squad to the active roster, as Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports. Adams was the Eagles’ leading rusher in 2018 — his rookie season — having compiled 511 rushing yards on a 4.3 yards-per-carry average and three TDs. However, after adding Jordan Howard and Miles Sanders this offseason, Philadelphia waived Adams during final cutdowns in August.

Jets GM Joe Douglas, who is reportedly high on Adams, was quick to scoop him up after he cleared waivers. In fact, the club was paying Adams $25K per week while he was on the practice squad, which is a nice income for a p-squad player.

Adams’ promotion naturally led some to wonder about Le’Veon Bell‘s health, as Bell reportedly sustained a knee injury during the team’s loss on Sunday. However, Mike Garafolo of the NFL Network tweets that another team was interested in signing Adams to its own active roster, and the Jets’ decision to call him up was triggered by that outside interest and not by Bell’s health. Indeed, both Mehta and Adam Schefter of ESPN.com say that Bell’s injury is not believed to be significant (Twitter links).

Mehta adds that Gang Green will get more clarity on Bell’s status later this week, and in the meantime, the 1-7 club might as well see what it has in Adams, a former UDFA from Notre Dame. That is especially true since the other team that was interested in Adams may have been the division-rival Dolphins, who recently lost Mark Walton to a four-game ban.

Garafolo also reports that the Jets have signed linebacker Paul Worrilow (Twitter link). Worrilow, a former UDFA himself, was a starter for the Falcons from 2013-15 and also started eight games for the Lions in 2017. However, he lost the entire 2018 season to injury, and the Eagles cut him in August due to health concerns.

Worrilow quickly caught on with the Ravens after the Eagles released him, but he announced his retirement shortly thereafter. He obviously changed his mind, though, as he worked out for the Eagles twice since the season started, and he worked out for the Jets on Friday. New York obviously was impressed enough to give him a shot, and it’s worth noting that Douglas was in Philadelphia during Worrilow’s tenure with the Eagles.

Ravens To Sign LB Paul Worrilow

The Ravens plan to sign veteran inside linebacker Paul Worrilow on Friday, a source tells ESPN.com’s Jamison Hensley. The deal will be finalized upon Worrilow’s passing of a physical.

Worrilow, a former UDFA with the Falcons, wound up starting in Atlanta for three seasons. He was used as a depth player for the team’s 2016 NFC championship season and later hooked on with the Lions, where he started in eight games. He lost the 2018 season to injury, however, and the Eagles just recently cut him due to health concerns.

Worrilow, 29, can provide experienced depth at inside linebacker as ILBs Patrick Onwuasor, Chris Board and Kenny Young have just combined 29 starts. Worrilow, meanwhile, has started 52 games over five seasons.

Eagles Release LB Paul Worrilow

Paul Worrilow‘s bid to shake off his 2018 injury and be part of this latest Eagles edition will come up short, with Field Yates of ESPN.com reporting (via Twitter) the team released the veteran linebacker.

Despite Worrilow’s initial Eagles pact preceding a season-nullifying injury, the team re-signed him this offseason. Being a vested veteran, Worrilow will venture back to free agency.

The former Falcons and Lions linebacker suffered a torn ACL early in the 2018 Eagles’ offseason program and has yet to fully recover. He suited up for 13 Lions games in 2017, starting eight. A team will surely need to see the 29-year-old defender show he is healthy before signing him going forward.

A Falcons UDFA, Worrilow became an immediate NFL success story by being a full-time Atlanta starter for three seasons. The team used him as a depth player during its NFC championship 2016 season and let him walk during the 2017 free agency period.

Eagles Re-Sign LB Paul Worrilow

Paul Worrilow‘s ACL tear nixed his debut season with the Eagles, but he will have a chance to make a second impression.

The Eagles and Worrilow agreed to terms on another one-year deal Wednesday. Worrilow signed a one-year pact with Philadelphia last year but suffered the season-nullifying knee injury in May.

This may not lock Worrilow into a surefire role with the 2019 Eagles, but this helps the team keep some experience around for depth purposes. A three-year Falcons starter who saw eight first-string appearances with the 2017 Lions, Worrilow joins Nigel Bradham as an experienced option in Philly. Should Worrilow bounce back and be part of the Eagles’ linebacking corps in 2019, it will be his age-29 season

Jordan Hicks is a free agent, and the Eagles’ cap situation is the NFL’s worst at present. The team is projected to be well over the 2019 salary ceiling, so big-ticket expenditures will be difficult. Young talents Kamu Grugier-Hill (10 2018 starts) and converted safety Nate Gerry are also under contract for 2019.

Eagles’ LB Paul Worrilow Suffers ACL Tear

The Eagles’ worst fears have been confirmed. Linebacker Paul Worrilow has been diagnosed with a torn ACL hours after being carted off of the practice field (Twitter link via Ian Rapoport of NFL.com). Needless to say, the ACL tear will rule Worrilow out for the 2018 season.

The Eagles signed Worrilow in early April with the hope that he would be a regular member in the team’s middle linebacker rotation.

Worrilow, 27, played on the majority of the Falcons’ snaps from 2013-15, but has since been relegated to backup duty. A former undrafted free agent, Worrilow spent the 2017 campaign with the Lions, where he started eight games but saw only 25% playtime, third-most among Detroit linebackers. Instead, most of his action came on special teams, where Worrilow played more than 60% of the Lions’ snaps. All told, Worrilow managed 20 tackles, one fumble recovery, and one pass defensed during his lone season in the Motor City.

Over the course of one day, the makeup Eagles’ linebacker group has shifted dramatically. In addition to losing Worrilow for the year, the Eagles have also released longtime linebacker Mychal Kendricks. The Eagles are likely to scour the linebacker market as they look for help alongside and behind starters Nigel Bradham and Jordan Hicks.
