Raiders Make Cuts, Down To 75

The Raiders have cut down to 75 with roughly 24 hours to spare. The following players have been waived by Oakland:

In addition, the Raiders also formally placed tight end Gabe Holmes on IR.

McCaffrey, of course, is the son of former Denver wide receiver Ed McCaffrey. Max, a Duke product, turned heads when he posted a 4.46 second 40-yard dash at his pro day earlier this year.

Raiders Waive Damontre Moore

The Raiders have made a handful of roster moves, claiming defensive back Tramain Jacobs and linebacker Lenny Jones off waivers from the Giants and 49ers, respectively, and waiving defensive end Damontre Moore and cornerback SaQwan Edwards, tweets Vic Tafur of the San Francisco Chronicle.

Moore is easily the most notable player of the group, having racked up 9.5 sacks over the previous two seasons. The 23-year-old entered the NFL in 2013 as a Giants third-round pick and was with the club until last December, when it waived him after a dispute over headphones with teammate Cullen Jenkins. Moore, who had picked up three sacks to that point, then joined the Dolphins via waivers. After making three appearances and recording a sack in Miami, Moore ended up back on waivers in May. He signed with the Raiders a week later, but his Silver and Black tenure didn’t even last three months.

Jacobs, who was Moore’s teammate at Texas A&M and last season in New York, is the only other member of this foursome who has played in an NFL game. The 24-year-old registered a combined eight appearances in stints with the Ravens and Giants.

Minor NFL Transactions: 8/4/16

Today’s minor moves:

  • The Falcons released rookie linebacker Torrey Green, as D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution writes. Green, an undrafted free agent linebacker from Utah State, is under investigation after two women accused him of rape.
  • The 49ers have claimed defensive back Cleveland Wallace III off waivers from the Texans and waived linebacker Lenny Jones, according to Nick Wagoner of ESPN.com (Twitter links). Houston cut Wallace on Wednesday.
  • The Bears announced that they have waived fullback/tight end Joe Sommers. They’ll also waive offensive lineman Adrian Bellard with an injury settlement, Aaron Wilson of The Houston Chronicle tweets. Bellard suffered a sprained lateral collateral ligament in right knee plus a bone bruise. Defensive lineman Marquis Jackson will join Sommers and Bellard on waivers, per Jeff Dickerson of ESPN.com (Twitter link).
  • The Giants waived cornerback Tramain Jacobs, as James Kratch of NJ.com tweets.
  • After just one day with the Jets, running back Terry Williams has been released, Darryl Slater of NJ.com tweets. The Jets have replaced Williams with fellow running back Matthew Tucker.
  • The Vikings announced the signing of running back Kevin Monangai, bringing their roster back to the 90-player max.
  • The Bears will sign linebacker Danny Mason, as Adam Caplan of ESPN.com tweets.
  • The Eagles have waived/injured defensive tackle Connor Wujciak, who is having surgery on his shoulder, Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer tweets.
  • The Browns have signed fullback Robert Hughes and running back Rajion Neal, as Mary Kay Cabot of The Plain Dealer tweets. To make room, they waived fullback Patrick Skov.
  • The Seahawks have cut long snapper Drew Ferris, tweets Wilson, and signed safety Keenan Lambert and running back Cameron Marshall (via Zac Jackson of Pro Football Talk). Lambert is the half-brother of star Seahawks safety Kam Chancellor.

49ers Sign DeForest Buckner, Draftees, UDFAs

The 49ers have confirmed the previously-reported signings of sixth-round draft picks Kelvin Taylor and Jeff Driskel, and announced nearly two dozen more roster moves to go along with those signings. In a press release, the Niners said they have waived four players from their 90-man roster, signed nine draft picks (including Taylor and Driskel), and added 12 undrafted free agents to the mix.DeForest Buckner

San Francisco’s most notable transaction is the signing of defensive lineman DeForest Buckner, who becomes the highest-drafted player to ink his rookie contract so far. Buckner, a standout at Oregon, was snagged by the 49ers with the seventh overall pick in last week’s draft, and is in line for a four-year contract worth more than $18.19MM, including a signing bonus of approximately $11.43MM. His deal also features a fifth-year option for 2020.

Listed below are the other draftees signed today by the 49ers, in addition to Buckner, Taylor, and Driskel. Only first-round guard Joshua Garnett and third-round defensive back Will Redmond are still unsigned:

While the 49ers had plenty of space on their roster for their draft picks, the team didn’t have much extra flexibility to add more than a handful of undrafted free agents. As such, San Francisco has cut four veterans: offensive lineman Jordan Devey, kicker Corey Acosta, running back Kendall Gaskins, and quarterback Dylan Thompson.

Devey is perhaps the most notable name in this group — the 49ers didn’t make many headlines when they acquired him from the Patriots in a trade for tight end Asante Cleveland last August, but Devey unexpectedly made his way into the club’s starting lineup to open the season. Although he was replaced down the stretch, the 28-year-old made nine starts and played nearly 400 offensive snaps for San Francisco in 2015.

With a few spots cleared on their 90-man roster, the Niners officially added 12 undrafted free agents. Here’s the full list of those UDFAs:
