Packers Cut Down Roster To 53

The Packers cut their roster down to 53 players today:

Waived

Waived/injured:

Placed on reserve/PUP:

The Packers ended up keeping only a pair of running backs in Aaron Jones and AJ Dillon, so the team must be feeling pretty confident that one of their waived RBs will pass through waivers and land on their practice squad. Patrick Taylor would seem to be the favorite for the RB3 role after collecting 25 touches in 2021. Meanwhile, the Packers kept seven wide receivers on their roster, so the release of Travis Fulgham was mostly due to a roster crunch.

The Packers no longer had a need for Ramiz Ahmed, as NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reports (on Twitter) that the team activated kicker Mason Crosby off PUP after the veteran passed his physical. Crosby missed training camp and preseason while recovering from offseason knee surgery.

Chargers Activate LB Kenneth Murray

The Chargers are on track to have one of their top defenders in uniform Sunday. Kenneth Murray is off IR and back on the Bolts’ active roster.

Sidelined with an ankle injury since Week 3, Murray returned to practice and will be in line to help a Chargers defense that ranks last against the run. The Bolts traded up for Murray in the 2020 first round and moved him into their starting lineup early last season. While he experienced developmental hiccups, the Oklahoma product registered 107 tackles. He has 19 through three games this year.

Chargers HC Brandon Staley also said the team is planning to use Murray on the edge as well as on the inside, via the Los Angeles Times’ Jeff Miller. Joey Bosa leads Chargers edge players with 4.5 sacks, but first-year starter Uchenna Nwosu has just one in seven starts.

Ahead of their Week 10 game against the Vikings, the Chargers also promoted linebacker Cole Christiansen, wide receiver Maurice Ffrench and cornerback Kiondre Thomas from their practice squad.

Browns Sign 5 UDFAs

The Browns have added five undrafted free agents to their offseason roster, per a club announcement. The group is headlined by Florida State defensive tackle Marvin Wilson, who will receive a hefty $192K guarantee:

Wilson was a ballyhooed recruit out of high school who could have been a second-round pick in last year’s draft. After a lackluster 2020, he may regret his decision to return to campus. The 6’5″ defensive tackle notched 44 stops and 8.5 sacks as a junior, but finished last year with 17 tackles and one sack in six games. Given his guarantee, he’s a safe bet to make the final cut. Harbison, who topped 1,000 yards twice at Northern Illinois before transferring to Charlotte, may also have a shot at the Week 1 roster.
