Minor NFL Transactions: 9/16/15

We’ll keep track of today’s minor signings, cuts, and other moves here…

  • According to Steve Corkan of RaiderBeat.com (Twitter link), the Raiders have promoted safety Tevin McDonald from their practice squad, giving the team some extra depth with Nate Allen sidelined and Charles Woodson also ailing.
  • The Patriots have added some depth at linebacker and on special teams by re-signing veteran LB Dekoda Watson, tweets Mike Reiss of ESPN.com. Watson was with the Pats in camp before being cut at the end of August.
  • With the 53rd and final spot on their roster, the Buccaneers have re-signed linebacker Orie Lemon, according to Roy Cummings of the Tampa Tribune (via Twitter). Like Watson with the Pats, Lemon was with Tampa Bay in camp before being waived near the end of the preseason.

Earlier updates:

  • The Eagles have signed defensive lineman Brandon Bair to a one-year extension through 2016, Field Yates of ESPN.com tweets. Bair, who will receive a $100K signing bonus, a $50K workout bonus, and a $675K base salary, mostly makes his mark on special teams and appeared in all 16 games for the Eagles last season.
  • On Wednesday morning, the Eagles signed center/guard Julian Vandervelde to the team’s 53-man roster, according to a team announcement. A fifth-round pick in 2011, Vandervelde has bounced around between the Eagles’ active roster and practice squad over the past four seasons. His ability to play both guard and center has made Vandervelde a valuable piece of the offensive line depth, as he appeared in 14 games in 2013.
  • The Jets announced that they released defensive lineman Kevin Vickerson (hamstring) off of the IR, as Brian Costello of the New York Post tweets.
  • The Texans are signing KR-WR Chandler Worthy to the active roster from the practice squad, according to sources who spoke with Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle (on Twitter). Houston is now at the 53-man limit again after previously placing Ryan Griffin on IR-DTR.

Jets Put Jace Amaro On IR, Trim Roster To 75

After cutting 12 players on Sunday, the Jets have made three more moves to ensure that they’re only carrying 75 players on their roster. Most notably, the Jets announced today in a press release that tight end Jace Amaro has been placed on injured reserve, ending his season.

Amaro, 23, was New York’s second-round pick in the 2014 draft, and grabbed 38 balls for 345 yards and two touchdowns in his rookie campaign. However, he injured his shoulder in the club’s preseason opener against the Lions, and Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News tweets that it’s a torn labrum for the tight end, who will undergo surgery.

In addition to putting Amaro on their injured reserve list, the Jets also moved veteran defensive end Kevin Vickerson to IR, and have waived/injured cornerback Dashaun Phillips.

Contract Details: Britt, Dent, Fasano, Jets

Here are a few specific details on some of the contracts signed recently by 2015’s free agents:

  • Kenny Britt‘s two-year contract with the Rams can be worth up to $13.95MM with incentives. However, the deal voids after one year if Britt has 901+ receiving yards or at least nine touchdowns during the 2015 season, tweets Tom Pelissero of USA Today.
  • Per Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun (via Twitter), Akeem Dent‘s two year deal with the Texans is worth $4.5MM, and includes $2MM in guaranteed money, including a $750K signing bonus.
  • Wilson also has the details on Anthony Fasano‘s new two-year contract with the Titans, tweeting that it’s worth $5.25MM, with a $1.125MM signing bonus and $500K annually in per-game roster bonuses.
  • New Jets defensive lineman Stephen Bowen will make $950K on his one-year deal with the team, with $60K of that amount fully guaranteed, tweets Adam Caplan of ESPN.com. Rich Cimini of ESPN.com notes (via Twitter) that defensive lineman Kevin Vickerson also signed for $950K and a $60K signing bonus, so it appears the two players have the same contract.

Jets To Sign Kevin Vickerson

The Jets have signed defensive lineman Kevin Vickerson, according to Rich Cimini of ESPNNewYork.com (via Twitter). The 32-year old tackle announced the signing on his Instagram account, writes Cimini.

Vickerson played 15 games with the Chiefs last season, and Cimini compares him to an older Kenrick Ellis (via Twitter).

Vickerson was only on the field for 175 snaps in 2014, logging 15 tackles and no sacks during that time. He still graded out positively against the run in limited playing time, although he lacked a pass rushing presence according to Pro Football Focus (subscription required). With Muhammad Wilkerson and Sheldon Richardson both doing more than their fair share in terms of getting after the quarterback, Vickerson will be able to play to his own strengths along the Jets’ defensive line.

Chiefs Announce Series Of Roster Moves

The Chiefs officially finalized a series of roster moves today, according to a team release. Besides confirming the signing of defensive lineman Kevin Vickerson, and the additions of wideout Armon Binns and tight end Adam Schiltz to their practice squad, which had been previously reported, the Chiefs also announced the following moves:
