Kamrin Moore Cleared Of DV Charges

Former Giants safety Kamrin Moore has been cleared of domestic violence charges by a grand jury, according to a statement from agent Eugene Lee (Twitter link via NFL.com’s Tom Pelissero). 

“We have continually asserted Kamrin’s innocence from the outset of this ordeal and believed that it was only a matter of time before he would be vindicated of these fabricated charges through the course of due process. I’m thankful for our legal team,” Lee said. “Kamrin now looks forward to resuming his NFL career.”

Moore was arrested in mid-July on assault charges after a woman claimed that Moore knocked her unconscious and stepped on her neck. Police were not called to Moore’s home, but the Giants acted swiftly by suspending Moore. He was later placed on the commissioner’s exempt list and the Giants dropped him from the roster in late August.

Moore entered the league as a sixth-round draft pick of the Saints in 2018. He didn’t stick there, but he did find a spot with the Giants after being waived. Last year, he appeared in two games for the G-Men.

NFC East Notes: Cowboys, Redskins, Giants

The Cowboys will face a tough test against the Packers on Sunday when they square off against one of the NFL’s best defenses, but a key piece of their offense will be returning just in time. Wide receiver Michael Gallup, who missed Dallas’ previous two games with a knee injury, is expected to play against Green Bay, according to Michael Gehlken of the Dallas Morning News (Twitter link). A second-year pass-catcher out of Colorado State, Gallup got off to a hot start in 2019, catching 13 passes for 226 yards in the Cowboys’ first two games of the year.

Here’s more from the NFC East:

  • Gallup isn’t the only offensive contributor that will make it onto the field for the Cowboys: right tackle La’el Collins, currently battling a back injury, will play against the Packers, as Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports. While Collins hasn’t missed any game action, he has been absent from practice this week. Left tackle Tyron Smith is expected to miss Dallas’ contest against Green Bay with an ankle issue, so Collins’ presence becomes all the more critical. Veteran backup Cameron Fleming will take over for Smith on the blindside.
  • Injured reserve is not in consideration for Redskins tight end Jordan Reed, head coach Jay Gruden told reporters, including Kareem Copeland of the Washington Post (Twitter link). Reed has suffered a number of concussions throughout his career and is currently dealing with yet another brain injury. Earlier this year, reports indicated that his career could even be in jeopardy given his repeated brain trauma. Reed is not expected to play in Week 5 and there’s no timetable for his return, but Washington apparently isn’t willing to give up his season just yet.
  • A domestic violence complaint and a restraining order against former Giants safety Kamrin Moore were both vacated earlier this year after a judge determined allegations against Moore could not be substantiated, but charges against the now-free agent defender have not yet been dropped, as Ryan Dunleavy of NJ.com writes. Moore is adamant he was falsely accused and now believes the Union County prosecutor’s office is delaying the dropping of his charges out of “embarrassment.”

Giants Cut Kyle Lauletta; Reach 53

The Giants waived quarterback Kyle Lauletta as a part of their moves to reach the 53-man roster limit. The move leaves Alex Tanney as the No. 3 QB behind starter Eli Manning and first-round pick Daniel Jones.

Between an October arrest and a poor professional debut, Lauletta dug himself into a bit of a hole. Although the 2018 fourth-round pick is just 24 and had enough upside to merit a mid-round selection, the 31-year-old Tanney edged him out in practice. This, perhaps, isn’t a huge surprise after the G-Men signed him to a two-year, $2.1MM contract with $775K guaranteed.

Complaint Against Kamrin Moore Dropped

The domestic violence complaint against suspended Giants safety Kamrin Moore has been dismissed and the temporary restraining order against him has been vacated, according to ESPN.com’s Jordan Raanan. The court determined that the allegations against Moore were not substantiated and lawyers for the 22-year-old (23 in October) tells Raanan that he feels “vindicated” by the outcome.

Moore was arrested in mid-July on assault charges after allegedly punching a woman, knocking her unconscious and stepping on her neck. Police were not called to Moore’s home, however, and we’ve heard little about the case in the last month.

The initial police report indicated that the alleged victim got into an altercation with another woman at Moore’s residence. When the accuser was knocked to the ground, she says that Moore intervened, stepped on her neck, and punched her when she returned to her feet.

Immediately after the story broke, the Giants suspended Moore, pending further investigation. There’s no word yet on whether the Giants will welcome him back.

The Giants claimed Moore off waivers last summer from the Saints. He went on to appear in two games for the G-Men in 2018.

 

Kamrin Moore Charged With Assault

Giants safety Kamrin Moore has been charged with third-degree aggravated assault, as Ryan Dunleavy of NJ.com writes. The Union County Prosecutor’s Office alleges that Moore punched a woman, stepped on her neck, and knocked her unconscious in a domestic violence incident. In response to the charges, the Giants have suspended Moore, pending further investigation.

On Thursday night, police say Moore caused the woman to suffer “bruising, swelling, and abrasions” in a brutal assault. The filing states that the woman in question got into a fight with another female at Moore’s residence. When Moore’s alleged victim fell to the ground, cops say he attacked her.

In a separate piece, Dunleavy passes along the following statement from Moore’s attorney, Alex Spiro:

“The claimant in this matter showed up unannounced and unsolicited at Mr. Moore’s home to begin an altercation with Mr. Moore’s girlfriend and invent these accusations. He will be fully cleared of all charges.”

Moore went undrafted out of Boston College in 2018 and signed with the Giants after he was released by the New Orleans Saints. Even before the incident, Moore was on the roster bubble as a reserve safety and special teams player.

Players involved in a domestic violence incident are subject to a six-game suspension for their first offense and a theoretical lifetime ban for a subsequent offense.

Giants Claim Mario Edwards

The Giants have claimed DE Mario Edwards off waivers from the Raiders, per Tom Pelissero of the NFL Network (via Twitter). The Raiders had been shopping Edwards, whom they selected in the second round of the 2015 draft, but they could not find any takers. Edwards has not lived up to his draft status yet, but he will get a fresh start in the Big Apple.

Edwards entered the league very young as a 21-year-old rookie and missed most of his second season with a hip injury. Edwards bounced back a bit last year, as he started in each of his 14 appearances and set a new career high with 3.5 sacks. However, he never impressed new Oakland head coach Jon Gruden, and the team was reportedly frustrated with him.

In New York, Edwards will certainly have a chance to show off the pass rushing ability that made him a second-round draft choice, as rookie B.J. Hill and second-year player Dalvin Tomlinson are currently penciled in as the team’s starting defensive ends.
