Sunday NFL Transactions: NFC North

Listed below are the Sunday roster moves for the four NFC North teams. Following the 53-man roster cutdown deadline yesterday, many teams will make slight tweaks to their rosters, claiming players off waivers or signing guys who clear waivers. Those transactions for the Bears, Lions, Packers, and Vikings are noted below.

Additionally, as of 12:00pm CT today, teams can begin constructing their 10-man practice squads. You can check out our glossary entry on practice squads to brush up on those changes, as well as all the other guidelines that govern the 10-man units, whose players practice with the team but aren’t eligible to suit up on Sundays.

Bears’ Jeremy Langford Out For 4-6 Weeks?

The Bears expect running back Jeremy Langford to be sidelined for 4-6 weeks with sprained ankle, a source tells Adam Schefter of ESPN.com (on Twitter). Jeremy Langford (vertical)

Langford, an NFL sophomore, was thrust into the starting role this season following the departure of Matt Forte. Through three games this season, Langford has amassed 116 yards off of 31 carries with two touchdowns. His 3.7 yards-per-carry average has been roughly in line with his 3.6 ypc posting last season.

With Langford sidelined for multiple weeks, the Bears will likely turn to Jordan Howard, a fifth-round pick out of Indiana. “The Bulldozer” has looked sharp in a limited sample size, posting a 5.6 ypc average off of 12 attempts. The Bears also have Ka’Deem Carey on the depth chart, but he is dealing with an injury of his own.

Bears Sign Three Draft Picks

The Bears have historically moved quickly to sign their draft picks, and this year is no different. The latest deals out of Chicago..

  • The Bears agreed to terms on four-year contract with fourth-round pick Jeremy Langford, according to Jeff Dickerson of ESPNChicago.com (on Twitter). The running back out of Michigan State rushed for a career-high 1,522 yards last season and tied the school record with 22 rushing touchdowns.
  • The Bears have agreed to terms with fifth-round pick Adrian Amos on a four-year contract, Jeff Dickerson of ESPN.com tweets. The safety out of Penn State will earn $2.512MM over the course of the deal with a $232K signing bonus, Aaron Wilson of the National Football Post tweets.
  • The Bears and tackle Tayo Fabuluje have agreed to terms on a deal, Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune tweets. Recently, Rich Campbell of the Chicago Tribune caught up with TCU head coach Gary Patterson, who raved about the young talent. Patterson says that Fabuluje will be a steal for Chicago if he maintains a relatively low weight.

Draft Visits: Strong, Steelers, Lions, Langford

With draft night just eight days away, several teams who are doing research and due diligence on Marcus Mariota are also intrigued by Bryce Petty, tweets Jason La Canfora of CBSSports.com. While Petty may not be a first-round pick, he could very well be the third signal-caller off the board after Jameis Winston and Mariota, says La Canfora.

The fact that the draft is now right around the corner also means that today is the final day for teams to host pre-draft visits for prospects. While clubs can still conduct private workouts over the next several days, visits have to be completed by tonight. Here are a few updates on the final visits happening around the NFL:

  • Jaelen Strong, WR (Arizona State): Visiting the Texans today, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com (Twitter link). The team will get a chance to look at his injured wrist.
  • Landon Collins, S (Alabama); Preston Smith, DE (Mississippi State); Dexter McDonald, CB (Kansas); Davis Tull, OLB (UT-Chattanooga): All visiting the Steelers today, per Scott Brown of ESPN.com (Twitter links).
  • Danny Shelton, DT (Washington): Visiting the Lions today, writes Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press.
  • La’el Collins, T (LSU); Jamon Brown, T (Louisville): Also visiting the Lions today, tweets Michael Rothstein of ESPN.com.
  • Jeremy Langford, RB (Michigan State): Has had visits with the Colts and Buccaneers in addition to previously-reported visit with Broncos, tweets Josh Katzenstein of the Detroit News.
  • Paul Dawson, LB (TCU): Recently visited the Falcons, after previously having worked out for the club, per Vaughn McClure of ESPN.com (Twitter link).
  • John Miller, G (Louisville): Visiting the Saints today, according to Rand Getlin of Yahoo! Sports (via Twitter).
  • Alani Fua, OLB (BYU): Visiting the Eagles today, tweets Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun.

AFC Notes: Browns, Cooper, Agholor, Titans

While he likely won’t be around by the time the No. 12 overall pick rolls around, Alabama wide receiver Amari Cooper paid a pre-draft visit to the Browns, tweets Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com. The Browns, of course, hold the 12th and 19th overall picks, so they have plenty of options at their disposal, including trading up or down, and they could certainly use some receiving help.

Here are a few more draft-related items from across the AFC:

  • USC wide receiver Nelson Agholor, who previously worked out for the Eagles twice, has also visited the Bills and has a workout lined up with the Patriots, according to Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun (via Twitter). With his draft stock reportedly on the rise, Agholor’s previously-reported workout with the Panthers happened today.
  • Michigan State running back Jeremy Langford, a potential mid-round selection, recently visited the Broncos, writes Mike Klis of the Denver Post. As Klis observes, Denver may be looking to develop a change-of-pace alternative, with Ronnie Hillman entering the final year of his contract. Klis notes in a second story that the Broncos also recently met with wide receivers Tre McBride (William & Mary) and Keith Mumphery (Michigan State).
  • The Steelers hosted a pair of prospects today, conducting their previously-reported visit with Nebraska pass rusher Randy Gregory and also taking a look at former Michigan quarterback Devin Gardner, tweets Scott Brown of ESPN.com. Gardner figures to play wide receiver at the NFL level.
  • After visiting the Steelers today, Gregory is on to Tennessee to meet with the Titans, per Ian Rapoport of NFL.com (via Twitter). Rapoport tweets that the Titans are also hosting Louisville wideout DeVante Parker. Neither Gregory nor Parker seems like a viable candidate to go second overall, though they’ll probably be long gone by the second round, so it looks like Tennessee is preparing for a number of different scenarios.
