Jeremy Langford

Dolphins Sign RB Jeremy Langford

Jeremy Langford has found a new home. ESPN’s Josina Anderson reports (via Twitter) that the running back has signed with the Dolphins.

It’s been a quiet offseason for the 26-year-old running back, as he hadn’t generated any reported interest after being cut loose by the Jets in April. The former fourth-rounder split the 2017 campaign between the Ravens’ and Jets’ practice squad, but he didn’t end up seeing the field for a regular season game. He inked a future/reserves contract with New York following the season.

The running back’s last notable contribution came in 2016 with the Bears, when he ran for 200 yards and four touchdowns on 62 carries. He also added another 19 receptions for 142 yards. Langford compiled more than 800 offensive yards during his breakout 2015 campaign. The running back will be reuniting with head coach Adam Gase, who was Chicago’s offensive coordinator in 2015.

Langford may have a tough time making the Dolphins’ opening-day roster. Kenyan Drake and Frank Gore sit atop the depth chart, and the organization seems to be optimistic about fourth-rounder Kalen Ballage. Therefore, the two-year veteran will likely have to compete with Senorise Perry and Brandon Radcliff for a roster spot.

Jets Cut Jeremy Langford, 3 Others

Jeremy Langford‘s four-plus months as a New York Jet may be over after the team made the decision to waive the running back on Friday. Newsday’s Calvin Watkins tweets the Jets also cut quarterback Joel Stave, wide receiver Daniel Williams and running back Jahad Thomas.

Langford landed with the Jets as a practice squad player in December, and the team kept him via reserve/futures contract in January. Matt Forte‘s former backup in Chicago, Langford visited the Giants and Dolphins in November before catching on with the Jets. But his career has not been the same since the Bears made him a then-surprising cut prior to last season.

A former Chicago fourth-rounder in 2015, Langford has not played in a game since the 2016 season. He saw steady work behind Forte in 2015, receiving 148 carries and turning six of those into touchdowns, but observed Jordan Howard usurp him a year later. He’ll now venture back to waivers.

The Jets also signed Stave to a reserve/futures deal in January. Both he and Thomas signed with the team’s practice squad in December as well.

Jeremy Langford Visits Giants, Dolphins

Jeremy Langford has not played in a game this season, but the former Bears starter made two trips about possible employment this week.

The free agent running back made a trip to the Big Apple to visit the Giants on Monday, Field Yates of ESPN.com tweets, and then trekked to Miami for a Dolphins summit, per veteran NFL reporter Howard Balzer (on Twitter).

Langford has not been signed, but two teams with dire running back situations displayed interest. The Ravens carried Langford on their practice squad, and briefly on their 53-man roster, earlier this season before the sides parted ways after a Langford injury. The Dolphins saw both Damien Williams and Senorise Perry due to injury against the Patriots, leaving Kenyan Drake as the only healthy back on their roster.

The soon-to-be 26-year-old running back has 1,158 career yards from scrimmage and 11 touchdowns in two seasons.

Ravens’ Jeremy Langford To P-Squad IR

The Ravens placed running back Jeremy Langford on practice squad Injured Reserve, according to a team announcement. In his place, the team has signed running back John CrockettJeremy Langford (vertical)

Langford, once the top ball carrier in Chicago, was released in early September. Somewhat surprisingly, he was not claimed on waivers by any of the league’s other 31 teams, making him a free agent. He joined the Ravens’ taxi squad before the start of the season and even spent one game on the roster before being cut and re-signed to the practice squad.

Langford, 25, has 28 games of NFL experience to his credit. Between 2015 and 2016, Langford accumulated 737 career rushing yards and ten career rushing touchdowns with an underwhelming 3.5-yards-per-carry average.\

Crockett, also 25, has only two NFL appearances on his resume, both coming with the Packers in 2015.

Ravens Sign Two Offensive Linemen

The Ravens have added two offensive linemen to the 53-man roster. Center/guard Matt Skura was internally promoted from the practice squad while offensive tackle Dieugot Joseph was signed off of the Bears’ practice squad. They’ll fill the roster spots vacated by guard Marshal Yanda (ankle) and inside linebacker Bam Bradley (ACL) now that they’re on IR and done for the season. Matt Skura (vertical)

Skura started in all four preseason games for the Ravens over the summer. The Duke product first joined the Ravens in May of 2016 but has yet to get his first taste of NFL action. Joseph, meanwhile, is an undrafted rookie out of Florida International.

In related news, the Ravens also re-signed running back Jeremy Langford to practice squad, along with guard Arie Kouandjio and linebacker Nicholas Grigsby. Langford was promoted to Baltimore’s 53-man roster after Danny Woodhead was placed on IR, but he was released late last week to make room for the promotion of tailback Alex Collins. Kouandjio, a former standout at Maryland high school powerhouse DeMatha, was a fourth round pick of the Redskins in 2015. This marks his first employment since missing Washington’s 53-man cut in early September.

Ravens Promote RB Alex Collins

The Ravens have made several moves this afternoon. Ian Rapoport tweets that the team has signed running back Alex Collins off their practice squad, while Jeff Zrebiec of the Baltimore Sun tweets that the team has also promoted cornerback Tony McRae. To make room on the roster, the team has placed cornerback Sheldon Price on the injured reserve (via Zrebiec) and released running back Jeremy Langford (via ESPN’s Adam Caplan on Twitter).

Alex CollinsCollins, a 2016 fifth-round pick, joined the Ravens practice squad earlier this month. The 23-year-old spent his rookie season with the Seahawks, where he ultimately appeared in 11 games. He finished the campaign with 125 rushing yards and one touchdown on 31 carries, and he hauled in another 11 receptions for 84 yards. With Danny Woodhead and Kenneth Dixon currently on the injured reserve, Collins will presumably serve as the team’s third running back behind Terrance West and Javorius Allen.

That spot was previously held by Langford, who was promoted from the practice squad earlier this week. The 25-year-old does have plenty of experience, as he appeared in 28 games (five starts) and compiled 210 carries between 2015 and 2016. While he does have 737 career rushing yards and 10 career rushing touchdowns, his 3.5-yards-per-carry mark is rather underwhelming, probably explaining why the Bears moved on from him following last season.

Price, 26, joined the Ravens back in 2015. The 2013 undrafted free agent out of UCLA has six career games with the Colts and Ravens, compiling a single tackle. He spent the majority of the 2016 season on the injured reserve after suffering a biceps injury. McRae, a 2016 undrafted free agent out of North Carolina A&T, will likely take Price’s spot on the depth chart. The 26-year-old figures to compete with Jaylen Hill to be the team’s fourth cornerback behind Brandon Carr, Jimmy Smith, and first-rounder Marlon Humphrey.

Ravens Place RB Danny Woodhead On IR

The Ravens have placed running back Danny Woodhead on injured reserve with a hamstring) injury. To take his place on the 53-man roster, the Ravens have promoted Jeremy Langford from the practice squad. Danny Woodhead (vertical)

The Ravens initially thought they would be without Woodhead for 4-6 weeks. Unfortunately, further tests showed that his condition was worse than initially thought. He’s now facing a 6-8 week timetable, meaning that the Ravens were essentially forced to clear out his roster spot. Per league rules, Woodhead can become one of two players to return from IR for the Ravens, but he’ll first have to sit out for a full eight weeks.

Woodhead joined the Ravens on a three-year, $8.8MM deal with $4.25MM guaranteed back in March. It was a surprisingly large investment considering Woodhead’s age, injury troubles in 2016, and how weak the RB market has been.

A former fourth-round pick, Langford rushed for 537 yards and six touchdowns as a rookie with the Bears. At one point it looked like his future was bright in Chicago, but he was displaced from the roster altogether in early September. The Bears cut Langford in favor of UDFA Taquan Mizzell, who ironically was released by the Ravens. In 2016, he had only 62 carries in 12 games.

Ravens Add Jeremy Langford To Practice Squad

The Ravens added some ball-carrying experience to their practice squad. Ex-Bears back Jeremy Langford will land on Baltimore’s 10-man taxi unit, Adam Schefter of ESPN.com reports (on Twitter).

The Bears cut Langford on Sunday, and he went unclaimed on waivers. The third-year runner will land with the Ravens, whose active-roster backfield consists of Terrance West, Danny Woodhead and Javorius Allen. Baltimore will be without Kenneth Dixon for the season.

Langford appeared to have secured a spot as a Chicago reserve, but the Bears claimed rookie UDFA Taquan Mizzell — whom the Ravens cut — on Sunday and installed him behind the likes of Jordan Howard, Tarik Cohen and Benny Cunningham.

A former fourth-round pick, Langford rushed for 537 yards and six touchdowns as a rookie. He received only 62 carries last season in 12 games and has averaged 3.5 yards per carry during his career.
