Vikings Release WR N’Keal Harry

N’Keal Harry‘s time in Minnesota has proven to be very short-lived. The former first-round receiver was released on Thursday, per a team announcement.

Harry signed earlier this month in his latest attempt to find a long-term NFL home. He began his career with the Patriots in 2019, but he was unable to live up to expectations. The No. 32 pick in that year’s class made just 57 catches across three seasons in New England.

That underwhelming production resulted in a trade to Chicago with the Bears taking a flier on the Arizona State product. Harry was limited to seven games with the Bears, however, and he made the same number of catches. He thus had very little in the way of interest when his rookie deal expired, needing to wait until August to land a veteran minimum contract in search of a depth role in Minnesota.

A lower-body injury suffered in warmups before the Vikings’ last preseason game resulted in Harry’s contract being terminated, reports ESPN’s Kevin Seifert (Twitter link). Recovery from the ailment will be needed for the 25-year-old to find a spot on an active roster or a practice squad, likely after the dust has settled following next week’s roster cutdowns.

With the spot opened up by Harry’s release, the Vikings signed safety Jake Gervase. The latter spent the first four years of his career with the Rams, seeing very limited game time until last season. The former UDFA suited up for 14 contests in 2022, continuing his heavy usage on special teams. He will look to earn a third-phase role in Minnesota in the coming days and in doing so secure a 53-man roster spot.

Minor NFL Transactions: 12/24/22

Following the Saturday slate of games, we still have four more games this week. Here are the minor moves leading up to the three Sunday games on Christmas Day:

Arizona Cardinals

Denver Broncos

Los Angeles Rams

Miami Dolphins

Pittsburgh Steelers

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Murphy has missed the last five games for the Cardinals while dealing with a back issue, so while it’s not necessarily a further setback for Arizona, the transaction indicates that Murphy will miss the rest of the season before going into free agency. With Murphy absent, the Cardinals have started veteran Antonio Hamilton across from Marco Wilson.

Since losing starting running back Javonte Williams to injured reserve and waiving Melvin Gordon, the Broncos have utilized a combination of Marlon Mack, Latavius Murray, and a pinch of Edmonds. Edmonds was sent to Denver in a trade that sent star pass rusher Bradley Chubb to Miami. He only recorded four rushing attempts in two games with the Broncos before being placed on IR with an ankle injury. Edmonds will return to help back up Murray and Mack in the team’s final three games of the season.

Rams Reduce Roster To 53 Players

As the Rams look to defend their Super Bowl title, the team reduced their roster to the 53-man limit today:

Placed on reserve/NFI:

Placed on reserve/PUP:

Placed on reserve/suspended:

Jacob Harris getting cut came as a bit of a surprise after the 2021 fourth-round pick got into nine games as a rookie. However, he rarely got a look on offense in 2021, and despite the Rams only rostering two tight ends at the end of the day (Tyler Higbee, Brycen Hopkins), Harris was let go. Chris Garrett was also a 2021 draft pick, being selected by the Rams in the seventh round. He only got into one game as a rook.

AJ Arcuri was a seventh-round pick in this year’s draft, but the rookie didn’t show enough to crack the 53-man roster. There’s a good chance the Michigan State product lands back on the Rams practice squad.

Rams Place LB Von Miller, Eight Others On Reserve/COVID-19 List

The Rams have placed nine more players on the reserve/COVID-19 list, including linebacker Von Miller. Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter (on Twitter), the following players have been sidelined:

The Rams are now up to 25 players on the reserve/COVID-19 list. While the organization will surely activate some players prior to Sunday’s game against the Seahawks, they’ll still have a long list of absences for the contest. Cornerback Jalen Ramsey and wideout Odell Beckham are among the other Rams players who were already stashed on the list.

Yesterday, commissioner Roger Goodell said the NFL wasn’t planning on postponing or cancelling any upcoming games. The Browns and WFT are among the other teams that are dealing with more than 20 players on the COVID list.
