Gods got a new plan for me and the NFL is a business !! Thank you to the Packers organization for taking a chance on me a year ago!,” Jackson wrote.

Jackson was an exclusive rights free agent this offseason and the Packers opted to retain him in April. Weeks later, he has been let go, leaving the Packers with just two running backs on the roster in Ty Montgomery and Christine Michael.

The 23-year-old appeared in three games (one start) for Green Bay last season, and managed 32 rushing yards on ten carries.

Today’s minor moves:

  • Chargers linebacker Korey Toomer has signed his restricted free agent tender, the club announced today. Toomer, 28, was assigned the original round tender, which means he’ll earn $1.797MM for the upcoming season. He’s the second RFA to ink his tender, joining Eagles tight end Trey Burton. Last year, Toomer appeared in 13 games and made eight starts, 71 tackles and one sack in the process.
  • The Packers have re-signed exclusive rights free agent running back Don Jackson, according to the league’s transaction wire. Jackson, 23, appeared in three games (one start) for Green Bay last season, and managed 32 rushing yards on 10 carries. Right now, the Packers’ running back depth chart only has four members: Ty Montgomery, Christine Michael, John Crockett (another ERFA), and Jackson.
  • The Rams have signed free agent linebacker Carlos Thompson, tweets Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle. Thompson went undrafted out of Ole Miss in 2015, and eventually landed a UDFA contract with Houston. After appearing in two games, Thompson spent the rest of his rookie campaign on injured reserve. Thompson was waived in 2016, and worked out for the Giants in October without landing a contract.
  • The Broncos have waived defensive end Travis Raciti, reports Troy Renck of the Denver7 (Twitter link). Raciti originally went undrafted out of San Diego State in 2015, and has since bounced between Philadelphia, Minnesota, and Denver. He has yet to appear in an NFL game.

Wednesday’s minor moves from around the NFL:

  • The Cowboys promoted wide receiver Vince Mayle from the practice squad to the active roster. He takes the place of tight end Geoff Swaim, who has been formally placed on IR after undergoing pectoral surgery. Mayle was a fifth-round pick of Cleveland in 2015.
  • The Packers placed running back Don Jackson on IR to make room for the newly acquired Christine Michael, tweets ESPN’s Field Yates. Green Bay promoted Jackson from its practice squad last month, and the undrafted rookie from Nevada went on to amass 10 carries for 32 yards before succumbing to a knee injury in practice Wednesday.

Packers To Place Eddie Lacy On IR

Running back Eddie Lacy‘s season is over. Lacy will have surgery performed on his injured ankle, likely ruling him out for the remainder of the season. Taking his place will be running back Don Jackson who is being promoted from the practice squad today. The team has confirmed both moves via press release.Eddie Lacy (vertical)

If Lacy is able to return, he would be eligible to come back for Week 15 of the regular season. Jackson will serve as Green Bay’s primary tailback tonight. In the longer term, it remains to be seen how the Packers will fill the void while Lacy is sidelined. The Packers acquired Knile Davis from the Chiefs earlier this week and they’ve also taken to using wide receiver Ty Montgomery in the backfield. While Montgomery offers great pass catching ability, they would like to have a more traditional runner available at times.

Lacy recently received a second opinion on his foot from Dr. Robert Anderson in Charlotte. Initially, the belief was that Lacy suffered a sprain, but it now looks like he is dealing with something more severe. Lacy, a powerful yet inconsistent tailback, suffered the injury in the Packers’ Week 5 win over the Giants. He toughed it out, running for 65 yards on 17 rushes the following week against Dallas.

The Packers will test out their makeshift backfield tonight against the 1-5 Bears. The Bears are allowing an average of 107.7 rushing yards per game this season, putting them roughly in the middle of the pack.

Packers To Promote RB Don Jackson

The Packers are a bit shorthanded at running back after James Starks underwent surgery yesterday, so the club will promote RB Don Jackson from their practice squad, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com (Twitter link). No corresponding move has been announced as of yet.Don Jackson (Vertical)

Starks will likely be out “about four weeks” after going under the knife to repair a knee issue on Sunday morning, Mike Garafolo of NFL.com tweets. Eddie Lacy, who is nursing an injury of his own, is the only other true running back on the Green Bay roster. Wide receivers Randall Cobb and Ty Montgomery are options to line up in backfield, but Jackson will give the club an actual back.

This morning, head coach Mike McCarthy left the door open to signing a running back (and/or a cornerback), but he acknowledged that it might be difficult to pull off without thinning out the team in another area, as ESPN.com’s Rob Demovsky wrote. However, the need for another RB apparently outweighed any concern the Packers had about robbing Peter to pay Paul.

Jackson, 23, is an undrafted rookie free agent that originally signed with Green Bay over the summer. After being waived, he’s spent the year on the Packers’ taxi squad.

Minor NFL Transactions: 7/25/16

Today’s minor moves:

  • The Redskins have waived 2015 sixth-round pick Kyshoen Jarrett with a failed physical designation, according to Tarik El-Bashir of CSNMidAtlantic.com (Twitter link). Jarrett appeared in all 16 games last season (starting five), but was unlikely to play in 2016 due to a neck injury.
  • The Panthers signed tight end Eric Wallace and waived wide receiver Cobi Hamilton, as Jonathan Jones of the Charlotte Observer tweets. Wallace played college basketball at Ohio State and DePaul, and then spent three years playing Australian Rules Football. A few weeks ago, the 6’6″, 260-pounder worked out for Carolina and ran the 40-yard dash in 4.6 seconds, which led to today’s signing, according to a team press release.
  • The Packers waived running Don Jackson with a non-football injury, and also cut defensive end B.J. McBryde, reports Rob Demovsky of ESPN.com, who adds that Green Bay’s roster now stands at 88.
  • The Texans signed undrafted rookie wide receiver Quenton Bundrage from Iowa State, Mark Berman of FOX 26 tweets. To make room, Houston has cut wide receiver Richard Mullaney, as Aaron Wilson of The Houston Chronicle tweets.
  • The Jaguars have signed former Penn State kicker Sam Ficken, bringing the roster to 90 players, as Michael DiRocco of ESPN.com tweets.

Packers Sign 19 Undrafted Free Agents

The Packers have announced their undrafted rookies, confirming in a press release that they’ve added 19 college free agents to their 90-man roster. The team has added four wideouts to its already-crowded receiving corps, and also signed three cornerbacks. Here’s the full breakdown of the 19-man UDFA class for Green Bay:
