Corvey Irvin

Minor Moves: Wednesday Night

Here are tonight’s minor moves..

  • Journeyman defensive tackle Corvey Irvin has signed with the CFL’s Calgary Stampeders, tweets Adam Caplan of ESPN.
  • The Redskins claimed punter Tress Way after he was cut loose by the Bears, according to John Keim of ESPN.com (on Twitter). Way is now the second punter on the Redskins’ roster alongside Robert Malone. Washington bid farewell to punter Blake Clingan earlier today.
  • The Colts announced that they have signed linebacker Robert Ruggiero and waived-injured fellow linebacker Shawn Loiseau, according to Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun (via Twitter). Loiseau, who has previously spent time on the Colts’ practice squad and offseason roster, last played for the Arena Football League’s L.A. Kiss. Ruggiero, an undrafted free agent out Bridgewater State University, tried out for the Colts during their rookie mini-camp back in May.

Lions Sign Corvey Irvin

The Lions have signed defensive tackle Corvey Irvin, according to Brian McIntyre (via Twitter). Irvin had been cut by the Cowboys on Friday, so Detroit didn’t waste much time in snatching him up.

Irvin, 28, appeared in six games for the Cowboys last season, appearing in a total of 119 snaps for the club over the season’s final few weeks. His new deal with the Lions is almost certainly for the minimum salary, and should give him the opportunity to earn a spot on the team’s regular-season roster this summer.

Cowboys Cut Olson, Dominguez, Irvin

3:44pm: The Cowboys have made the cuts official, according to a press release from the team.

2:34pm: Earlier this afternoon, we heard that the Cowboys were set to release defensive end Everette Brown. Now, Calvin Watkins of ESPNDallas.com adds three more names to the team’s list of cuts. According to Watkins (via Twitter), the Cowboys will release offensive linemen Jeff Olson and Ray Dominguez, along with defensive tackle Corvey Irvin.

Like Brown, none of these three players were set to earn more than the minimum salary in 2014. Olson, Dominguez, and Irvin also don’t have any prorated bonuses that will count against the cap, so waiving them will wipe their entire cap numbers from the Cowboys’ books. Given how small those cap hits were though, the combined savings of the four cuts will total less than $1MM.

Of the three players, only Irvin saw real action for the Cowboys in 2013, playing 119 snaps for the club over the final six weeks of the season.
