Dolphins Activate T Julien Davenport

The Dolphins’ left tackle to start the season, Julien Davenport will have a chance to make another impression on his second NFL team. Miami activated the third-year blocker from IR, Cameron Wolfe of ESPN.com tweets.

Davenport will return to the Dolphins’ active roster, taking offensive lineman Andrew Donnal‘s spot.

Veteran J’Marcus Webb has started in Davenport’s place, but the rebuilding team will likely want to get a look at one of the pieces acquired in the Laremy Tunsil trade. Webb and Jesse Davis have been the Dolphins’ primary tackles this season.

A 2017 fourth-round pick, Davenport started 15 games for an embattled Texans line last season. Davenport suffered a hyperextended knee and a small crack in his tibia in practice sessions before Week 2. The Dolphins have deployed one of the league’s worst offensive lines this season but have won back-to-back games, so Davenport’s reintegration into the starting lineup may not be immediate. Davis, though, has experience at both tackle and guard and could move inside to accommodate the younger blocker’s return.

Lions Trim Roster To 53

The Lions are the latest team to officially trim their roster all the way down to 53. After stockpiling quarterbacks, they’ve now cut two of them. Former AAF passer Luis Perez and Tom Savage were both let go. That means that legendary journeyman Josh Johnson has made the team as Matthew Stafford‘s backup, and recently acquired rookie David Blough has made the squad as the third-stringer. Detroit also waived Isaac Nauta, a rookiie tight end out of Georgia who they drafted in the seventh-round.

Lions Promote Eric Lee, Cut Andrew Donnal

Eric Lee landed on his third practice squad in as many years when the Lions stashed him on theirs after the Patriots deemed the edge defender unworthy of a roster spot after the preseason. But Lee will return to a 53-man roster this week.

The Lions promoted Lee to their active roster on Saturday and will waive offensive lineman Andrew Donnal to make room, Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press tweets.

Lee spent his rookie year on the Texans’ practice squad and was on the Bills’ 10-man taxi unit in 2017 before the Patriots added him to their active roster. The Pats used Lee as a starter in five games during their most recent AFC title season, and he made a bit of an impact. Lee registered 3.5 sacks for the Pats last season. He also played in all three of New England’s playoff games.

Detroit will once again be without Ziggy Ansah, who has missed the past two games because of a shoulder injury. However, Ansah remains on the active roster. The Lions clearly hope their top defensive end will be able to suit up again soon.

Donnal spent time on the Rams’ and Ravens’ active rosters from 2015-17, starting six games in St. Louis and Los Angeles from 2015-16. He did not play in a Lions game this season.
