Allen Lazard

Packers’ Allen Lazard Out Indefinitely

Packers wide receiver Allen Lazard is out indefinitely after undergoing core muscle surgery, as ESPN.com’s Adam Schefter tweets. The timing is unfortunate as Lazard is coming off of one of the best games of his career — a six-catch, 146-yard showing against the Saints. The Packers placed Lazard on IR Saturday.

The Packers could now be without their top two receivers heading into Monday’s game against the Falcons. Davante Adams remains questionable with a hamstring injury, which could leave Green Bay with Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Malik Taylor, and recent practice squad call-up Darrius Shepherd as their only three receivers. At minimum, you can expect the Packers to add one receiver to the group over the weekend, possibly Robert FosterCaleb Scott, or Juwann Winfree from their expanded 16-man unit.

So far, Aaron Rodgers has loved what he’s seen from the 24-year-old former UDFA. Unfortunately, he’ll have to wait a while before he gets to work with him again.

He was as productive as just about anybody in camp, and I really like his approach,” Rodgers said (via ESPN.com). “He’s the one who’s always in Davante’s ear, listening to what he’s talking about. Damn near every time I come in the Hutson Center during training camp when we’re starting practice, I walk in and do the same thing, put my helmet down. And Shep is picking Davante’s brain about releases and certain thingsAnd look, I try and pay attention as much as I possibly can, but that sticks with you. That impacts you. You’re seeing just that desire to improve and get better. And then you see it on the field.”

Packers’ Allen Lazard, Chandon Sullivan Sign ERFA Tenders

The Packers are bringing back a pair of exclusive rights free agents. Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports (via Twitter) that Green Bay has re-signed wide receiver Allen Lazard and cornerback Chandon Sullivan.

Lazard, 24, had a breakout season for the Packers last season, hauling in 35 receptions, 477 receiving yards, and three touchdowns. He also added a 21-yard rushing attempt and six tackles. The 6-foot-5, 227-pound receiver has a chance to be the second wideout behind Davante Adams in 2020, as he’ll be competing with the likes of Devin Funchess and Marquez Valdes-Scantling for targets.

Sullivan, a 2018 undrafted free agent out of Georgia State, appeared in five games for the Eagles as a rookie. He signed with the Packers last offseason and proceeded to appear in 16 games, compiling 30 tackles, six passes defended, one interception, and one forced fumble.

The Packers had previously inked a trio of exclusive rights free agents: tight end Robert Tonyan, wide receiver Jake Kumerow, and defensive end Tyler Lancaster.

Jaguars Sign 13 UDFAs

The Jaguars have signed the following 13 undrafted free agents:

Meeks skipped his senior season at Stanford with the belief that he would be a Day 3 draft pick. That call never came, so he’ll have to scrap for his opportunity to make the Jaguars’ final cut. Lazard also seemed to have a decent chance at getting drafted after setting Iowa State records with 231 passes and 3,218 yards over the course of his collegiate career.

The Jaguars now have have one open spot on their 89-man roster after releasing wide receiver Jaelen Strong and punter Brad Nortman.
