Packers Cut Roster Down To 53

5:50pm: The Packers have formally announced their last few transactions to get down to 53 players. The team placed tight end Jake Stoneburner and defensive end Khyri Thornton on injured reserve, and cut center Garth Gerhart, tight end Justin Perillo, defensive end Luther Robinson, and tackle Jeremy Vujnovich. Additionally, Hubbard has been fully cut from the roster rather than being placed on IR, as indicated earlier.

1:30pm: The Packers are not finished making moves, as they’ve parted ways with five more players in addition two placing a duo on injured reserve:

A handful of these players have an opportunity to catch on with the Packers’ practice squad. As mentioned in each player’s respective tweet, White and Doughty have a chance of sticking around. The team could also bring back Hill or Perkins, but Silverstein indicates that the team won’t bring back both.

Rookie Notes: Titans, Saints, Packers

It hasn’t been the best couple of days for two Titans rookies. Sixth-round pick Zach Mettenberger had his first practice since tearing his ACL in November and admitted that his leg wasn’t close to 100 percent.

“I am not moving as fluidly as I have in the past but I am working hard to get back there,” the rookie told Jim Wyatt of The Tennessean. “Being in the brace for two months, trying to learn how to walk, you lose a lot of muscle. … I just have to keep working.”

Meanwhile, first-round pick Taylor Lewan had his court case adjourned for four weeks, according to ESPN.com’s Michael Rothstein. The 11th-overall pick requested more time to investigate the report that charges him with one count of misdemeanor aggravated assault and two counts of assault and battery. The hearing is scheduled for June 16th, the day before the Titans’ first minicamp.

  • Undrafted rookie Tim Flanders had good reason to want to join the Saints, writes Terrance Harris of NOLA.com. Not only is the team seeking a fifth running back who can contribute on special teams, but coach Sean Payton has proven that he won’t write off undrafted backs. Flanders refers to Pierre Thomas and Khiry Robinson.
  • ESPN’s Packers reporter Rob Demovsky says an undrafted rookie’s signing bonus may indicate who sticks around for the regular season. The writer points to Lane Taylor, who made the team last season after inking the largest signing bonus among the Packers undrafted signees. The team signed five players to a team-high, $5K signing bonus: linebackers Jake Doughty, Jayrone Elliott, Adrian Hubbard and Joe Thomas and guard John Fullington.
  • Despite tearing an abdominal muscle that required sports hernia surgery last month, Jaguars‘ undrafted tight end Marcel Jensen has a good chance of making the team, writes Ryan O’Halloran of The Florida Times-Union. His size and production at Fresno State, combined with the lack of tight end talent currently on the roster, gives the rookie a chance.
  • Of the four tryout players the Bills brought in, receiver Caleb Holley is the most likely to stick around, opines Joe Buscaglia of WGR550.com. Meanwhile, considering the presence of Jeff Tuel and Dennis Dixon, quarterback Kenny Guiton likely won’t be signed.

Packers Announce 14 UDFA Signings

FRIDAY, 11:11am: The Packers have announced one more UDFA signing, revealing today that they’ve also signed Iowa safety Tanner Miller.

TUESDAY, 4:18pm: Add one more undrafted free agent to the Packers’ list. Wes Hodkiewicz of the Green Bay Press-Gazette tweets that Washington State offensive lineman John Fullington passed his physical and signed with the team, and today’s NFL transaction wire confirmed the move. Fullington received a $5K signing bonus, according to Dougherty.

MONDAY, 7:28pm: The Packers have officially announced that they have signed 12 undrafted free agents, according to the team’s official website.

AFC North Rumors: Browns, Bengals, Ravens

CBS’ studio show will look a little different in 2014, with longtime analysts Dan Marino and Shannon Sharpe on the way out and a pair of recently-retired players on board. In addition to Tony Gonzalez, Bart Scott will also be joining the CBS team, according to the network. For Scott, who is still just 33 years old, it’s an early transition away from the field, and one that some NFL teams were hoping he’d put off. According to Tom Pelissero of USA Today, Scott had multiple workouts lined up before accepting the CBS job, and the Browns were among his most serious suitors.

  • A Browns source tells Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk that a Monday report suggesting Cleveland’s new coordinators reported to CEO Joe Banner before the team overhauled the front office was not accurate.
  • Some reports have suggested that the Bengals may let Michael Johnson walk after signing two other defensive linemen, Carlos Dunlap and Geno Atkins, to big contracts a year ago. However, according to Pete Prisco of CBSSports.com, the Bengals intend to make every effort to re-sign Johnson, who will “see a lot of activity” if he hits the open market.
  • Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun has been keeping close tabs on the players the Ravens have interviewed at this weekend’s combine in Indianapolis, and passes along a couple more updates today. According to Wilson, The Ravens met with a pair of linebackers, Alabama’s Adrian Hubbard and LSU’s Lamin Barrow, as well as Iowa tight end C.J. Fiedorowicz.
