Broncos Trim Roster To 53

The Denver Broncos made a slew of moves today to get down to 53 players. Notably, the team will place rookie second-round quarterback Drew Lock on injured reserve, meaning he’ll have to miss at least the first eight games of the season as he recovers from his thumb injury. The team cut journeyman Kevin Hogan and UDFA Brett Rypien, leaving them without a quarterback behind Joe Flacco. GM John Elway has said they’ll sign a veteran to backup Flacco for now, and we’ve already heard they’re interested in Brian Hoyer.

There weren’t too many surprises that we didn’t already know of. Brendan Langley, a 2017 third-round pick, failed to make the team. He was drafted as a cornerback, but switched to receiver earlier this offseason after he didn’t pan out on defense.

Saints To Sign Marshall Newhouse

The Saints are set to sign offensive tackle Marshall Newhouse, according to Adam Caplan of SiriusXM (on Twitter). Newhouse auditioned alongside fellow tackle Adam Bisnowaty and center/guard Ryan Groy on Tuesday and made a strong impression on the team. Caplan adds that the Saints could still sign one more offensive lineman, so the door could still be open for Bisnowaty or Groy in New Orleans.

The Bills shipped Newhouse to the Panthers in September for a conditional 2021 seventh-round pick. He went on to appear in eleven games for the Saints, but started in only two of those contests. That marked a big change from 2017, when he started in all 14 of his contests for the Raiders. Over the course of his eight-year career, Newhouse has started in 72 games for the Packers, Bengals, Giants, Raiders, Bills, and Panthers.

The Saints project to start Terron Armstead and Ryan Ramczyk at the tackle spots with support from veteran Jermon Bushrod. Newhouse probably has decent odds to make the cut following Wednesday’s release of Derek Newton.

Vikings Waive OL Adam Bisnowaty

Adam Bisnowaty‘s short tenure with the Vikings has come to an end. The team announced today (via Twitter) that they’ve waived the offensive lineman. The team has signed undrafted rookie defensive end Stacy Keely to take the open roster spot.

The former Pittsburgh standout was a sixth-round pick by the Giants back in 2017. He ended up starting the season finale as a rookie, but the Giants ultimately waived him several months later. Bisnowaty then bounced around the league a bit, spending time with the Lions and Panthers. He caught on with the Vikings in late October, and he proceeded to spend the rest of the season on the team’s practice squad.

The Vikings will see several additions to their offensive line next season, as they added free agent guard Josh Kline and drafted center Garrett Bradbury in the first round. The team also added veteran Dakota Dozier and rookies Dru Samia and Oli Udoh.

Keely had participated at last week’s rookie minicamp on a tryout basis, and he parlayed that performance into a contract. The UAB product was relatively productive in a reserve role this past season, compiling eight tackles, one sack, and one forced fumble.

Panthers Announce Roster Moves

The Panthers are the latest team to announced their initial wave of roster cuts. Carolina will need to make further transactions in order to comply with the 53-man roster maximum on Saturday.

The following players were cut by the Panthers today:

None of Carolina’s cuts should come as much of a surprise, although there was some thought Clausell might stick on the club’s roster given its injuries along the offensive line.
