The Falcons have lost a second center for the season, announcing today (Twitter link) that Peter Konz has been placed on injured reserve after suffering a knee injury this weekend. The team signed offensive lineman Jonathan Scott to fill the newly-opened roster spot.
Konz, 25, started 25 contests during his first two seasons with the Falcons after being drafted in the second round in 2012, but was relegated to a backup role to open the 2014 season. When center Joe Hawley was placed on injured reserve, Konz slid back into the starting lineup, but will now see his campaign end after just seven games.
Earlier today, ESPN’s Adam Caplan had reported (via Twitter) that while the results of Konz’ MRI weren’t in yet, the feeling was that he had at least suffered a significant sprain. It appears the MRI confirmed the injury is a serious one, and the designation to return wasn’t an option for the Falcons, who already used that spot on safety William Moore earlier in the year.
As for the Falcons’ newest lineman, Scott hasn’t played in a regular season NFL game since 2012, but has plenty of experience, having logged 35 total starts for the Lions, Bills, Steelers, and Bears.
Doesn’t matter. Were already fucked anyway.
The only reason the last two seasons have sucked is injuries. Unless there is evidence that these injuries could have been predicted or prevented, there is no need to shake up the Falcons front office. I heard a rumor though that Harbaugh would leave San Fran to come to the Falcons? If so, I’m so sorry Smitty, but I gotta sign up for that one.
Can only coach mediocrity up so far. Poor drafting + poor FA pickups = no depth. Every team faces injuries. Most teams have depth at positions so they can overcome them. TD is the first that needs to go.
You are correct, but also keep in mind we are down to third stringers and journeymen on the o-line. Ryan looks like Peyton with time to throw the ball, but with the turnstyle o-line we have right now he looks like a little boy, quite frankly. There is something about TD though that I have faith in him no matter what. It is like he has Jedi mind control over me, and I will praise his picks no matter what. Also, he is still so young, and thus, room for improvement. And now, paired with Pioli, you gotta give those two a chance. If I were to point a finger at any of the top brass, I would have to choose Smitty. He is just not mean enough. A meaner coach may have more playoff wins and be able to convert on 3rd/4th and short. On the other hand, without Smitty’s smooth style, how do we know the Falcons would have had those opportunities in the first place?
Wow, the analyst on NFL ,ESPN,and other sports outlet have call this defensive roster put together by Dimitroff and Smith the worse in football ,and couple of analyst have gone so far as to say the worse they have seen in their playing and or coaching careers, even Mike Smith bro inlaw called the Falcon roster the most poorly assemble of athletes he has seen in the league , injury of just a part of this game, up and down this league every Sunday OL are out or playing hurt , ,something is terribly wrong that this team can’t pace together injured players to compete enough to give this team a chance on Sundays, .Dimitroff and Smith may go down as the two worse combo of GM and HC in this league ever ,and both deserve what they most likely will get barring a miracle turn around EXIT STAGE LEFT.. For those fans who are hoping these two buffoons are gone, should not be shock to see with a new GM and Head Coach , that many of the faces in key spots on this team want be around either , even Matt Ryan might not be the fit at qb for the next GM and HC , the fans out there looking forward to a new GM and HC will find that it is hardly likely the new GM and Coach would want to mirror the two who just got fired.
