The Cowboys want Jalen Ramsey, but they fear that he’ll be gone by No. 4, Tony Pauline of DraftInsider.net writes (via PhiladelphiaEagles.com). With that in mind, Dallas is eyeing Ohio State standouts Joey Bosa and Ezekiel Elliott. Bosa would help bolster the team at defensive end while DeMarcus Lawrence recovers from surgery and Randy Gregory serves his first month suspension. Elliott, meanwhile, would give the team help at running back.
Here are the latest rumors on the 2016 NFL Draft (all of which come from Pauline, unless otherwise indicated):
- Insiders believe that we could se three offensive tackles – Laremy Tunsil, Ronnie Stanley, and Jack Conklin – go in the first top 12 picks of the draft. That could start a run and Pauline writes that we could see six tackles taken in the first round.
- The Cowboys would consider trading down, Pauline hears, but they want to stay ahead of the Giants at No. 10.
- Observers at the UCLA pro day described Myles Jack as a “remarkable athlete.” One source told Pauline (in his running log for Walter Football) that “he looked like a defensive back doing linebacker drills.”
- Aaron Wallace, the Bruins’ other notable linebacker, is gaining a lot of momentum in the scouting community, Pauline hears. Wallace currently has official visits set up with the Buccaneers, Browns, and Raiders with more likely on the way.
- UCLA offensive lineman Caleb Benenoch has been graded as a top-75 selection, according to Pauline. Many believe that Benenoch can play tackle and guard in addition to center.
- Georgia linebacker Jordan Jenkins says that he’ll have private workouts with the Raiders, Patriots, and Saints, Vaughn McClure of ESPN.com tweets.
- Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press (on Twitter) reports that Michigan State quarterback Connor Cook has private workouts scheduled with the Cowboys and Dolphins.
- All 32 NFL teams were in attendance at MSU’s pro day, Adam Schefter of ESPN.com tweets. At the event, Cook met with the 49ers and Rams before the workout and met with the Browns‘ staff after.
- Michigan State defensive tackle Joel Heath says that he will have a private workout with the Patriots this week, Michael Rothstein of ESPN.com tweets. In addition to that, he’ll meet with the Titans later this month. Heath previously met with the Colts and Buccaneers.
- Pittsburgh wide receiver Tyler Boyd looked great at his Pro Day and the slowest unofficial 40-year-dash time that has been reported was in the low 4.5s.
- Pittsburgh corner Lafayette Pitts recorded 40-yard-dash times under 4.4 seconds, with some watches marking him at 4.35.
- There’s no definitive word on whether Virginia Tech cornerback Kendall Fuller will work out before the draft.
- Youngstown State linebacker Terrell Williams is drawing interest from clubs. The Jets and Eagles, in particular, see him as a quality backup linebacker/core special teams guy.
- The Lions have a private workouts set up with Michigan State offensive linemen Jack Conklin, Jack Allen, and Donavon Clark later this month, Birkett tweets.
Ramsey will be available at #4. This is how I see it: Tennessee can only trade down with San Diego at this point if they want to get Jalen Ramsey + picks. Why would SD even trade with them though? If Tenn takes Ramsey, SD gladly takes Tunsil. If Tenn stands pat and takes Tunsil, DeForest Buckner makes the most sense for them, since their DL is terrible – Pick confidence = 70% Buckner v 30% Ramsey. Tunsil is probably the best prospect at Tackle since Tyron Smith. That being said, they invested a #2 in Mariota, they have glaring holes all over, but he will look more like David Carr than Derek Carr if they don’t draft Tunsil.
Only way I see them trading with SD. Browns want Wentz so bad, they trade up to get him, giving up multiple #1s b/c another team X is attempting to trade up and giving multiple #1s, or they trade with team X. Then, if the pick they hold is a top 10 this year, they use 1 of those extra #1s to trade for the #3 spot and get Ramsey. But that’s a lot of work just to move down 2 spots with a team that will be fine with whichever player falls to them at #3 anyway.
I could definitely see a run on offensive line in the 1st round. Those top 3 linemen are very good. I’m rooting for Ronnie Stanley to land in Philly.
He’d definitely be available at #8 if no one trades up. By jumping the Giants, they’ve all but guaranteed themselves a shot at Stanley. I don’t think I’ve seen a Mock that has him falling past them at #8. The only other move that makes sense here is to trade back and pick up a 2nd Rnder in the process. However, if the team they trade with picks Stanley, the run you’re speaking of will happen and Conklin comes off the board to the Giants at #10.
You really want him as a philly fan? As a giants fan I would love to have him but that’s because we need a tackle, you guys have peters for at least another year. Stanley’s problem is he will be a great tackle but doesn’t run block well enough to be a guard, making him ride the bench for this year which makes philly an odd fit
@Z-A I think the Ravens might pounce on Stanley at 6.
@Snorgator Peters might make it through this year and even if he does it’s only 1 year, then he’s done. The Eagles would be set at OT with Lane and Ronnie for years to come if they picked Stanley up.
The only other option I see is RB and that can be addressed in later rounds.
Who knows what they’ll do, but Doug Peterson might channel Andy Reid and wisely sure up that O-Line.
Nobody is taking any of those QBs that high. This reminds me of that EJ Manuel draft where everybody was hyping all of these guys like Geno Smith, but the teams passed on the mediocre QB prospects for better players. Imo, the Browns are eying someone like Connor Cook or Hackenburg in the 2nd or 3rd round. They have way too many holes to be drafting a project early in the draft.
As a Giants fan I love them picking at 10 and although they never trade back I’d like them to consider moving back 5-6 slots grabbing an extra 2nd to lock into place both an OT/DL and possibly still have the pick to take a chance with Jaylon Smith. Wishful thinking I know……
