In the wake of the Eagles releasing corners Darius Slay and James Bradberry, it seemed Isaiah Rodgers was in line to step into a notable role. Instead, he will be on the move.
Rodgers has agreed to terms on a two-year deal, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports. The pact is worth $15MM and includes $8MM fully guaranteed. Rodgers has come back from a season-long suspension to earn multiyear pact, winning a Super Bowl ring between his gambling ban and this agreement.

Receiving an indefinite suspension for violating the league’s gambling policy while with the Colts, Rodgers missed the 2023 season but resided as an Eagles stash that year. With Vic Fangio taking over, the ex-Colts starter/kick returner played a supporting role as the Eagles broke in two rookies (Quinyon Mitchell, Cooper DeJean).
Using Rodgers as a three-game starter, the Eagles gave him 328 defensive snaps for a CB corps that stayed mostly healthy. Rodgers, who had worked as a Colts boundary defender in 2022, broke up three passes in the playoffs for the Eagles last season. The team had eyed another agreement with the 27-year-old cover man, but it does not seem like it was quite prepared to go where Minnesota did.
As the Vikings have Murphy back in the fold and slot defender Josh Metellus under contract, Rodgers will be positioned to vie for the boundary job Stephon Gilmore may be vacating. Gilmore is considering retirement after his age-34 season. The Vikings, who sported a top-five defense last season, may still lose three secondary charges, as stalwart safety Harrison Smith is now 36 and also contemplating walking way. Rodgers, then, could become a key presence on Brian Flores’ third Vikes defense.

wow, we are losing players from that secondary! Ringo is gonna have to step up big time next season for my eagles
I suspect the Eagles Brass were very comfortable with what they saw in Ringo and Ricks in Practice, since there was no real rush to release Slay with a Post June date.
Hate to see him go but Howie and Fangio must feel good about the young guys and talent available in the draft.
And if guys like Ringo don’t show well, they’ll be racking up extra comp picks to replenish.
That won’t really matter if it costs them games.
The offseason has only just begun and they need to pick their financial battles. They understandably prioritized Baun and they’ve got two young standout corners to build around.
I agree. I’m just saying they need to put winning above comp picks etc.
Personally I want to see Ringo given a real chance to start on the outside.
Part of how the Eagles get away with signing so many big contracts and pushing so much money into the future is that they’re often adding extra draft picks and new rookie contract contributors. I’m not saying comp picks are more important than winning, but I think they’re extremely helpful to their team building approach.
But overemphasizing them over talent is exactly how they destroyed their 2018 team.
I mean, Carson Wentz getting paid and imploding while a couple of the other guys got old had a lot to do with it.
Solid bet for a team with a huge need.
Cornerback draft is deep not with top talent, but you can get a nice backup or developmental guy. eagles can play that game or just sign someone late in free agency.
They already have Ringo and Ricks but it probably couldn’t hurt to draft another.
I know they already signed some of last year’s preseason DBs to futures deals.
Vikes fan here….any eagles fan tell us about this Rodgers fella?
The Eagles boards wanted him back to start as CB2 on the outside. We were hoping to get him on a steal of a deal because he has limited starting history, but has been solid when filling in. The Eagels are very tight on cap space and are likely hoping Kelee Ringo can move into a starter role. (Ringo less Experience but likely a higher upside.) If the Eagles were not so tight on Cap Space, they likely would have tried harder to keep him around.
He’s kind of undisciplined and a bit raw but he can also have some impressive performances shutting down receivers and make some big plays.
Not a shutdown guy but a solid #2 or at the very least spot starter.
@not. Just saying it’s deep 5th-6th rounds deep. Last year was the year to get top talent, lions followed the same path.
Happy for Rodgers. He came back from injury and suspension and played pretty well at times. He’s also an elite return man.
Good cheap pickup by Minnesota.
