NOVEMBER 10: Prescott confirmed that he will be in New York on Monday to seek a final opinion on his partial right hamstring avulsion, per WFAA’s Ed Werder.
If the specialist determines that surgery is necessary, then it will take place in New York this week with a three-to-four month recovery period. If Prescott avoids surgery, he will still need six-to-eight weeks to heal before he can return to the field, according to Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News.
NOVEMBER 9: After the Cowboys baffled the media by not placing quarterback Dak Prescott on injured reserve today, reports have followed detailing the reasoning for the delay. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Prescott is still seeking multiple opinions as he attempts to avoid surgery.
After it was reported that Prescott had suffered a partial hamstring tendon avulsion, it became clear that the 31-year-old would miss an extended period of time. Further investigation of the injury determined that it may be necessary for Prescott to undergo season-ending surgery. Yesterday it was announced by team officials that Prescott was headed for injured reserve, but at this point, no such transaction has been made.
Schefter reported today that the plan is for Prescott to undergo the season-ending surgery. The only reason he hasn’t already is because he plans to seek “the opinion of one final specialist.” Prescott flies to New York next week to meet with the specialist. If the specialist agrees with every other opinion so far, the quarterback will undergo surgery on Wednesday.
Multiple sources set the recovery timeline for the surgery at six to eight weeks. Cowboys staff are already convinced that he’ll require surgery, so it wouldn’t make a difference whether they place him on IR today or later this week. If, by some miracle, the specialist comes away with a different opinion, the Cowboys keep open the potential option for Prescott to return sooner.
Not like they had a shot at the sb anyways
Better to play it safe have him healed up and head into the off season with better draft position.
Seriously though play Trey Lance. You traded a 4th for him. Play him. He either floats or sinks take what comes.
Draft wise getting a top 10 pick would be crucial. Especially since it’d allow Dallas to trade out of top 10 and accumulate draft assets.
Dan is paid
Lamb is paid
They need some cheap contracts next 4-5 years.
lol play Trey lance ya they should do that there isn’t enough humor in modern day football id love to watch that
Oh no. Trey Lance threw his league leading 40th interception!
……
And Dallas cowboys are on clock with the # 2 3 4 5 pick in the 2025 nfl draft
So you’re telling me a Cowboy would have a shot at an NFL record? We’ll take it!
Did you not watch any pre-season…Lance was throwing picks to practice squad and guys packing groceries. He couldn’t read those basic defenses.
Oh no. Almost like him sucking would guarantee better draft position the cowboys could potentially exploit with a qb needy team trading up to their pick in the 2025 nfl draft.,Oh no.
Nothing cowboys fans have to endure more than being mocked year in and out why not do it intentionally this time good point
Prescott going on IR means he can’t return until after Thanksgiving, regardless of when the move happens. Won’t that kill the buzz Fox needs for Turkey Day?
Thanksgiving is still a likely win unless they flat out implode: it’s the Giants, who lost to Carolina today.
All in!
This is where Cooper Rush becomes next Romo. Wonder if Lance sniffs the field during all this ?
I doubt Cooper Rush does anything. He’s older than Dak and can’t throw the ball downfield. They should be playing Lance. If he’s good, then that’s great news for the Cowboys. If he’s horrible, maybe you move into the top five in the draft.
This time it was Dak but losing a Mahomes, Jackson, Burrows etc. for any extended period of time essentially means your season is over. Time to modify the game model because this is going to continue to happen (probably even more frequently) as the schedule is expanded.
Play Lance….diamond in the rough or bust, see what you got, either way it’ll be a top draft pick for the Cowboys next year
They know Lance is not the answer right now.
They’ll play him once they give up on the season.
They gave up on the season the moment they handed the offense to Cooper Rush.
Everyone that’s watched football for more than 5 minutes knows Cooper Rush is terrible, including everyone on his team, but as long as McCarthy knows he’s about to get fired, and senile 120 year old clan founder Jerry Jones still thinks they’re going to win the Super Bowl, Lance won’t play until they’re down by 40 points. So no more than a couple of quarters every game. I don’t think that’s necessarily an indictment of Lance. He’s still virtually an unknown quantity. But as long as McCarthy, one of the worst NFL coaches to ever coach as long as he has is still making those decisions, Cowboys fans will be stuck watching the 3 and out machine Rush. Maybe it will boost Bryan Anger jersey sales, though.
The last time Dak was out for an extended period of time Rush went 5-1. Not sure how all of the sudden he became the worst back up QB in modern history! The O-Line sucks and the Defense isn’t much better because of all the injuries! If the Defense gets back to performing at a high level, they could still sneak in for a Wild Card spot.
I think surgery scares this cat…..
…and then he’ll be getting a second final opinion…
Paying your QB isn’t always the answer. Joe B, Trevor, and Dak are ‘leading’ sub-500 teams. But the good thing is they usurped each other for the highest-paid QB title for a minute.
Pokes got their ass kicked again — they’re 0-4 at home with 3 of those losses lopsided — Lance came in for Rush late in the 3rd.
Dallas would have to lay an egg the rest of the way to get high up in the Tankathon. Thru the Week 10 schedule, Jaguars 1st, Giants 2nd, Cowboys only 11th.
How’d your Jets do today? They’re moving their way up the Tankathon ranks as well.
