Free agent running back Adrian Peterson was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport on Sunday on a felony domestic violence charge. As The Washington Post’s Nicki Jhabvala writes, the incident took place in the morning onboard an airplane flying to Houston.
According to a statement from the Los Angeles Airport Police, they were called to respond to “a verbal and physical altercation between a male suspect and a female victim”, later identified as Peterson and his wife. Peterson was removed from the plane before it took off, and his wife and the other passengers completed the flight without further issue.
A representative for Peterson released a statement which reads in part, “this is a private misunderstanding between husband and wife and we anticipate it will all be resolved shortly”. Peterson was taken into custody with a $50K bail and released on bond later in the day. ESPN’s John Keim adds that his wife “was not going to press charges”. Peterson pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor reckless assault charge committed against his then-four-year-old son in 2014.
The 36-year-old continued his career by signing with the Titans midseason, after they lost Derrick Henry to injury. Not long after, he found himself in Seattle, though he only appeared in four total games in 2021. The former league MVP has bounced around to six teams since his illustrious tenure in Minnesota. Just shy of 15,000 career rushing yards, which ranks him fifth all time, he intends to play in 2022.
Can this violent POS finally go to prison, please?
More like can he finally be GONE from the nfl
It never ceases to amaze me that people lose control in public, especially public figures. He knows he’s a recognizable celebrity and still can’t control himself. SMH
Note to Mr. and Mrs. Peterson: it’s not a “private misunderstanding” if it takes place aboard an airplane, i.e. in public. What you have there is a “public misunderstanding”, and you are now playing by the “public’s” rules, not your own.
So…you get arrested for arguing in public? The physical aspect was a scratch on her finger. So….arrest worthy? No. Should you do it? Absolutely not. Still not something you arrest a guy for.
This isn’t sports.
A child abusing monster. Hopefully he never sets foot on the field again.
Joe mixon punched a girl in the face and called her friend a homopobic slur after she refused his advances, and he was in the super bowl last night. Ray rice would probably have played for a few more years and made another 20 mil if we didn’t get the camera footage of him knocking his fiancé unconscious and dragging her body out of an elevator.
Don’t act surprised when violent men that are paid to play a violent game do violent things.
Joe Mixon and Ray Rice are two very different categories.
Not painting out Mixon as a saint by any means, but he was 19 years old when he punched a women, not 30-36.
Nonetheless, no act of aggression towards a woman is acceptable. These prima-donna’s need to be rehabilitated and (for some) initially taught on how to handle relationships.
If I’m not mistaken mixon had just turned 18 the day before the incident.
Never saw this with Dick Butkus, Reggie White, Mean Joe Greene, Ray Nitschke, Chuck Bednarik, etc. Pretty violent players on the field.
That’s not what happened with Joe Mixon.
Yes it is? What do you think happened??
The video shows Mixon and his friends at the girl’s table (Amanda Molitor, if I remember correctly), with Mixon talking to her, clearly angry. Molitor was seated, Mixon was standing. She stood up, approached him and shoved him, and he cocked back, and she slapped him again. He then punched her, and he and his friends left.
Here is CCTV footage of the actual assault. link to abc13.com
She stated that she refused his advances earlier in the night at another location. He stated that her friend called his friend a slur.
Wow that’s wild almost like you were there, great memory. Here’s the victims testimony. Weird, doesn’t quite jive with your version of things link to m.youtube.com
Okay, that’s her interview. Understood. Watch the CCTV footage. You can believe or disbelieve what they say, that’s your call. But I gave the link to the footage of the assault above. That’s what actually happened on camera.
Looks like he breaks a woman’s face good for him
Fine, but your account above is, again, completely untrue. In watching that video, Molitor got up to approach Mixon, strikes him first, and does so twice before hit her. You failed to mention that in your synopsis. You should do so next time. Have a good day bud
I have no respect for people that don’t know how to handle themselves in public. That to me just reeks of I’m AP and will do what I want, when I want
Celebrities are humans too. To act like you’ve never acted wrong at some point in public is a joke
The thing was weird when the story about Peterson beating his kid was the certain people who are normally eager to attack people like him for doing things like that defended him on that one.
Tells you what they are up to.
Peterson will not see a day of jail time.
Deshaun Watson is still a free man that should tell you what’s about to happen to AP
that’s because that’s not how the court system works
You’d think he’d have learned by now. He needs a can of whoop ass opened up on him. You e damaged your reputation beyond repair Peterson. You don’t deserve HOF consideration.
Someday we’ll realize the impact of decades of brain rattling hits have on these guys. I’m not making excuses for AD as he still needs to be held responsible but the brains they’re pulling out of these guys show so much damage it’s a miracle they even have the impulse control of a toddler. Super messed up.
If Zeke becomes a cap casualty I could AP in Dallas.
So did they “switch” his flight?
Damn…Beat me to the punch
Hahahaha
Adrian Peterson is the poster child for not what to do in an NFL career. Lost millions, now trying to play out the string and killed his reputation by hanging on for that last check. Child abuser and now wife beater. Guy has proven he con no longer play. Just go away already.
So you didn’t read what actually happened. Got it.
But Tyreek Hill is an angel because he’s a top wr right ??
It appears the football career of AP is finished but perhaps he and the wife could make a cameo appearance in a “Snakes on a Plane” sequel.
Depending on the details, it might not matter. This was public with many witnesses, so the wife not wanting to press charges will not matter so much. Charges will still be filed. If Peterson’s account is true, that the only injury was to her finger after he took off the wedding ring, the charges may be reduced or the solicitor will offer a plea deal to do so.
Of course, it’s important to note that he was in the moment and not thinking rationally, so his account of what he THOUGHT the police said to him-that they were only taking him in because of a scratch to her finger-could easily be false or misheard on his part. The interesting thing that could become relevant (or not) is what, if anything, Peterson’s wife said on a plane ride in an enclosed space with the other witnesses to help build a case.
His career was close to over as is. California’s DV laws will determine what level of charge Peterson will ultimately plead to or face in court, but my expectation is that charges will certainly be filed due to the number of witnesses that could make a case for the state.
There was a scratch on his wife’s finger. That’s the physical part of this. Didn’t strike his wife, his wife doesn’t plan on pressing charges. End of the day it’s an argument around other people that if people understood de-escalation, Peterson likely doesn’t need removed from the flight, much less arrested.
I’m just talking the legal scenario, not wading into what should or should not happen. Like I said, I’m not familiar with California law, but most of the time CDV doesn’t involve the classic battered and bruised broken woman and drunk guy standing over her wearing a beer stained wifebeater, though that does of course happen. The physical standards can be met by minor injuries or major injuries. Other things, like the presence of children or prior convictions or even prior charges at all, can affect the current level of charges depending on the state.
Details like you mentioned are more important to the solicitor in deciding how to pursue the charges than they would be to the police arresting the individual. For them, it’s much more of a requirement checklist to see what charge will be fulfilled.
I believe CA law states that if there is a DV call, someone has to go to jail – no matter what. Which would explain why he was removed from the plane. I don’t think there’s anything that demands prosecution, if there are witnesses or otherwise. This barely gets the attention of Dick Wolf.
Sources tell me it was over who had to take middle seat.
I’d say this constitutes a pattern. Such tiny, tiny men.
